My American Heat ADK-1 is not heating the water. How do I troubleshoot this?

  • kelseyhirsch Sep 08, 2011

Unfortunately the diagram you reference on page 4 is completely illegible, both on the version you linked, and the same manual I found independently. I can't find a switch anywhere on the unit even though I took the cover off. What does it look like, where is it located and how does it reset?

Hi,
The problem is usually the thermal saftey cutout switch....this can be manually reset, but if it continues to cutout then the thermostat is bad and needs to be replaced...

You can see all of the parts and where they are located by going here and checking out page 4

SOURCE: I have an American Heat adk-1. As of this morning

You need to get a real tankless water heater, I had one of this brand and what a waste of money, when you call the company they do not speak very good English and if you talk to Richard whom is supposedly the VP he is as dumb as a mule.

Troubleshooting whirlpool ee2h50rd045v water heater

1) Copy following links for whirlpool energy smart resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Energy-Smart-troubleshooting-guide.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/Whirlpool-Energy-Smart-electric.html

2) Control box is probably bad.
There are 2 types of control boxes for older-style energy smart water heaters.
You will need model number and serial number from label on side of tank to order from Whirlpool.

3) This older-type energy smart water heater is probably discontinued by AO-Smith, American, State, Craftmaster, Reliance water heater group that makes Whirlpool and Kenmore water heaters.
New generation energy smart offers interface with home automation and/or non-existent smart grid.
Older energy smart only offered potential interface with non-existent smart grid.

I need the diagram american heat adk-3 6.4

You want wiring diagram? With recommended wire size?
This particular water heater is direct-wired into a wall box, and appears to be 240Volt 6500 watts. Connect water heater to 40 amp breaker and 8 gauge wire.
Look at nameplate on device for amp and wattage rating to confirm exact power requirement.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

Or a general part illustration?
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/American-ADK-3-parts.jpg

Contact American Heat. 888-818-4328
Their support button and link to product manuals and literature seems rather null date 10-14-12 which could indicate a company in transition.
There is email form
http://americanheatus.com/index.php/contacts/

American Heat is NOT same company as American water heater company.

ADK-1 Super------------why is it that I have to relpace the unit or repair it at least 6 times in 9 months? I have replaced the plunger and spring along with the heat sensor each time and still they die....

If you live in an area where you have hard water it can destroy pretty much any tankless water heater, but it seems that you may have another problem, I speak to them on a regular basis and everyone there seems to speak English and Spanish, its very important to make sure that this unit is installed by a liscensed person, whom will check your wire gauge, and breaker size, if you use 240v this unit can draw upto 66 amps, so its important to have an electrician size your heater for the correct voltage.

Tankless heater says standby and nothing happens

You must to make sure that you have not used too much teflon tape, and also that the flow sensor is still inside the inlet pipe. For example these units some with a reed switch type flow mechanisim which when flow is detected it opens the door for the electricity to pass through the unit. so no Flow no power, or in your case there maybe something clogged, or your flow sensor is not inside the inlet pipe, also if this unit has been installed previously and had been working for sometime now, then check on the inside pipe behind the screen you will notice there is a small black or either white bullet style flow switch, if this flow switch is stuck on the inside of the unit, this is your problem, if not its a reed switch, you can call 1-888-818-4328 and ask for an ADK reed switch see picture attached

Water Temperature Fluctuates

no the tub faucet is the only faucet that is wide open you might have to not run full blast on the faucet , your tankless water heater is under sized for the application, to many gallons per min going thru the unit, look at the rating chart for your unit, the r94 is only 9.4 gallons per min, and a tub faucet can be upto 5 gallons per min, depending on the faucet,,
