Can't get the darn to work

Hi. I have a Sony PS-LX350H turntable. I'm putting my stereo system together. I have attached the belt, and the unit nis getting power, but the turntable remains stubbornly still. It won't turn. I can't even spin it with my fingers. What do I need to do that I'm not doing?

Remove the drive belt and see if the turntable spins, if it does the drive motor is faulty, if it doesn't then (if this is a new turntable) it's possibly got a locking device to hold the turn table steady during shipping.

Power supply Sony PS-LX10

Connect the RCA phono plug wires usually red and white wires with plugs to a receiver or amplifier in the back of it to phono in. New receivers will not work unless you have a phono preamp. Best to buy a vintage stereo receiver or amplifier with the correct connections. Make sure you connect the ground wire which is usually a small black wire coming from the turntable to an receiver or amplifier. Turn the stereo receiver on phono. Connect it to any screw attached to metal on back or look for a ground screw. If you do not attach it it will hum.

I have a Sony turntable system PS-636 which I bought as new in the UK many many years ago. It is not working and an engineer who looked it says the capstan motor (whatever that is) needs to be replaced and...

There's only one motor and that turns the turntable! If it has gone your in trouble. If the engineer can't get one it could be double trouble for you. I can only advise you to contact Sony and see if the motor is still available. If it is you can tell the engineer about it. If not I would sell it on E-Bay marked for parts only! Put any money you make towards a new turntable. There's lots of demand for parts such as the lids etc on E-Bay.

For the Sony PS-LX350H screeching turn table, where would I put the silicone grease? On the center spindle? That is the only moving part I see other than the spindle that turns the belt and I don't think...

Stay away from the belt and any surfaces it touches with that grease. Don't even touch them with bare fingers.

You need to identify the part(s) that are causing the screech before wailing on it wit h grease.

Is it a physical sound heard directly from the TT or is it a screech through the speakers (indicating feedback or audio signal distortion)?

Take the platter of and look for a reason if it's a physical problem. Look for signs of scraping. Manually rotate the platter base CW and listen.

If the screech is electronic, turn the volume down and/or get the TT away from speakers. Clean the stylus.

Sony PS-LX350H turntable Phono cartridge looks not vertical, tilt to the right and non adjustable, this is normal?

Did you inherit this machine this way or did this problem just appear out of nowhere?

Refer to the manual, available at retrevo.com for free after you register (keyword = Sony PS-LX350H).

Page 8 shows how the cartridge attaches to the headshell.

How do I adjust the anti skid?

Perhaps it might help to know your symptom . There are no user adjustments for either tracking force or ant-skate. They recommend making sure the TT is level.
