Question about Hoover U6630-900 WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

I had the vacuum running and needed more cord, so while it was running I pulled the cord out further. The vacuum stopped and I have been unable to start it up again. I don't think I pulled the cord out to far, I think the problem occurred because I pulled it while the motor was on. Any suggestions?

I think you have pulled the cable end spade terminals off the connectors on the side of the cable drum.

SOURCE: I was vacuuming and pulled the cord too far.

you should be able to reconnect it yourself. remember to maintain original polarity. if the inside of the wire has no colors denoting hot and neutral. look at the outside of the wire for a smooth texture and a texture of ridges the smooth texture corresponds to the hot side of the wire and the ridges are over the neutral. Of course it will work even if hooked up incorrectly but this would be improper if not unsafe.

Won't turn on stop running in the middle of room.

Mine did the same thing. The electrical cord is loose where it plugs into the machine. When you pull the vacuum into the room it puts just enough strain on the cord to break the electrical connection. Push the plug on the cord firmly into the vacuum.

I have a problem with a miele s524 canister vacuum. While the motor is running and you pull out the power cord for more length it shuts off.

Be careful here, the cord inside is connected somewhere to the unit and it may have come loose (the connection) If you can safely get it apart a look will show where the issue is but I would also suggest having a shop do that for you--better safe than sorry.

The power cord does not retract or rewind when the button is pushed. How can I repair this?

Sometimes you can help get the springs working again, by gently pulling the cord out a little further and then let it slowly in while pushing the cord retract button.

I pulled the cord to far for my dyson 23

Hi Terri,

On your DC23's cord is a red indicator to show the maximum length the cord should be extended - pulling it further than this could cause damage to the machine. If this appears to have happened to your machine, please get in touch with us so we can provide further assistance - you can call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

We'll look forward to helping you resolve this issue.

Best wishes,

Where the power cord goes through the metal casing, there is a plastic thing that protects the cord. I can't get the power cord to slide through nor can I seem to get that plastic thing to release or...

That plastic thing is the cord retainer. The cord will not pull out or push in until the strain relief is pulled out. A needle nose or channel lock pliers should be used. Squeeze the strain relief as close to the housing as possible and pull it out. You can then slide the cord further into the strain relief and replace it in same fashion.

VACUUM - 1. How to open up a Wertheim 5030 to get to the cord retractor 2. How to fix the retractor so that it retracts the cord.

Hi to do this you will have to somehow find a service manual, this will give detailed instructions on why and how. I have searched for one however i was unable to find any. Perhaps a direct plea to the manufacturer may help?

In any event, usually the is NO "Fixing" of the retractor, most often, the mount at the rear attachment of the coiled spring, brakes and this stops it retracting.

The fix is to replace the entire recoiler assembly. This is pretty simple job, if one can obtain the parts.

However my professional advise is to take it to a vacuum repair shop, (NB: Only take it to a repair shop that deals in YOUR brand) and ask for a "Quote" for the repair, I am sure it will be modest indeed. You see this is just such a common thing that they fix all the time.

Miele just stopped working?

Hello,

When a Miele canister just stops working all of a sudden, it's usually a pretty clear indication that either you have a bad cord reel, or a bad switch. I would say that in 60% of Miele repairs that I do with this problem, the cord reel has gone bad.

One easy thing that you can try to see if the cord is bad, is put one hand on the on/off switch, and the other hand grab the cord (making sure it's fully retracted inside the canister). Now pull the cord out slowly with your one hand, while continously turning the switch on / off, on / off. Keep pressing the switch on and off while pulling on the cord. Usually if the cord reel has gone bad, then you may hear the vacuum attempt to start, or even turn on while you're pulling on the cord. The cord reels in Miele use a metal spring inside that makes connection with the rest of the vacuum. Over time this spring will start to loose it's strength, and eventually will get so bad that it no longer makes contact with the rest of the vacuum. By pulling the cord out slowly and pressing the on / off switch, a lot of the times the spring will make connection somewhere, and the motor may turn on temporarily.

If this happens, this indicates your cord reel needs to be replaced. I have done a detailed repair here on Fixya on how to replace the cord on a Miele canister vacuum that you may read here;
http://www.fixya.com/support/t2281026-miele_s514_will_not_come

If you can't get the vacuum to turn on at all, this can only mean a few things. First the cord reels spring is gone completely, and wont make any connection with the rest of the vacuum, and you'll still need to replace it.

It also can mean that just the plug that plugs into the wall is bad, is your plug bent, or no longer straight on either prong?

It can also mean that your motor has gone bad. This however is usually the least likely of all the problems. The Miele motors are almost bullet proof, and typically last 20 years. I can count on one hand the number of Miele motor replacements I've ever done in 10 years of fixing vacuums.

I can try and help you diagnosis this further if my suggestions didn't help you. Please use the clarification request that you see here on this page to ask me a question. Please just let me know what happened when you tested the cord out as I suggested above. I really hope this was helpful to you. If you found this to be helpful, please be sure to rate the repair as helpful to you by clicking the thumbs up icon. I really appreciate that.

Hi, I have replaced the electric cord on Electrolux Lux Royal vacuum, but the rewind that retracts the cord does not pull it in. The coil spring looks ok but it will not pull the cord back in, any suggestions please.
Thanks Dave Ryder

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
The question I have is it the Electrolux or the Royal cordwinder, if the cordwinder is sprung you may have to get a new one or a good used one, it’s been a while since I have done a cordwinder and I have seen it done, but I know when you remove the cordwinder you need to lock in the spring so that it does not loose it tension and re-coil ability. You may want to ask your local vac dealer to see if you need to repair or replace. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
