I have a Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator with top freezer. The icemaker is "leaking" if it is the right word into the ice tray bin that it is building a chunk of ice along with the regular ice cubes. Does it mean that I need to replace the whole icemaker? Thank you...

There are many things that can go wrong with a Kenmore refrigerator ice maker. Your ice maker may be leaking. It may not make any ice at all, or the ice that comes out smells or has an odd appearance. The problem may have an easy solution, or it may require a technician's expertise. The troubleshooting tips in this article will minimally make you aware of what is likely the source of the problem. You may be able to fix the problem yourself and save a bundle.

When it Won't Make Ice
1. Get a thermometer and see how cold it is in there. If your freezer is fewer than 17 degrees F, it won't make ice.
The freezer temperature setting may be too high or the thermometer is broken and not calibrated correctly. If adjusting the temperature fails to work, call a Kenmore technician.
2. Determine if your water fill spout in the freezer is plugged with ice. If so, no new ice can be made. Try clearing it out or melting the ice by running a hair dryer on it for a few minutes.
3. Turn your refrigerator around to look at the back side to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve behind the fridge. If the water is not properly connected, there's no water to make ice.
4. Use an ohm meter to test for coil continuity. If the ohm meter shows there is no continuity, then you will need to replace the water inlet valve.

When the Ice Maker Leaks
1 Refer to your user manual to determine where your fill volume adjustment dial, is and turn it down. One-half to one full turn usually is approximately equal to 20 to 40 cc, and the correct fill is usually 130 to 150 cc ( 4.5 to 5.0 oz ).
2 See if there are icicles hanging from the fill spout and/or on the ice maker's sides. If there are, this means your water inlet valve is leaking and will need replacing. Refer to your user manual for a part number, or call a technician.
3 Check to see if the ejector seal is cracked. If it is, replace it. Refer to your user manual for a part number, or call a technician.

Thanks have a nice day!

I have a Kenmore Coldspot Model #78187891, with a leaky icemaker problem. The icemaker seems to leak near the front of the icemaker (closes to freezer door) and makes these stalactite structures. This...

Most likely ice maker is the problem and would need replacing. Water valve is letting to much water in but the amount of time solenoid stays open is controlled by the ice maker

I have a coldspot kenmore

Tim,

At first blush it sounds like the water valve that supplies water to the ice maker is sticking or leaking and letting too much water in.

If you can, watch how much water fills into the ice maker tray (very boring stuff). If it overfills the icemaker tray, then the water valve or timer is malfunctioning and needs repair or replacement.

Icemaker leaking causing icicles

Is it overfilling with water? If so, it may be an problem with the fill valve leaking slightly. I say slightly because if it were a large leak, the freezer would have frozen puddles in it. Also check the water chute to be sure the water is all going into the freeze tray. Sometimes they can work loose.

If the seam is leaking, there could be a crack in the housing - not sure that's repairable - sometimes epoxy will work (5 minute, 2 part) but it can be difficult for glue to hold on the type of plastic used in an ise maker housing.

Trouble with ice-maker

Either the inlet valve is stuck or the icemaker solenoid is shored.

Most likely the second one.

Kenmore Coldspot w/Ice Maker Not Making Ice

hi LOP7,
In most cases you can easily solve this problem.
step one would be to make sure your freezer is getting cold enough. If you have icecream in your freezer is it frozen solid or is it soft. Most icemakers cycle around 0 degrees and if your freezer is not getting to 0 then it will not cycle and it will not make ice.
Step two would be to make sure you icemake is cycling. To do this simply lift the little shut off arm on your icemaker and wait about an hour then go back to the icemaker and drop the arm down. The icemaker should start going through a cycle. You should notice the arm slowly begin to raise and the ice dispencer fingers will begin to turn. Then you will hear it call for water. You may hear a humm.
If the freezer is cold enough and the icemaker is cycling that only leaves the inlet valve. replace the valve and enjoy the ice.
If the freezer is cold enought and the icemaker does not cycle, then you have a bad icemaker. Simply replace the icemaker and viola.
Third if the freezer is not cold enought 0 defrees. Then you may have a defrost problem. In this case post more info and I will be happy to help. Good luck [email protected]

No ice

if you remove the icemaker there is a white cover over the head of the icemaker, pull the cover off. youll see a gear in the center. in the middle of that gear there are two plastic tabs that hold it in place one or both of the tabs may be broken cause a bad conection behind the wheel. if tabs are broken you need a icemaker modual (part the gear is attatched to) if not broken you need a watervalve located on the bottom right side behind the freezer
