Hello. There are a few causes for this. I will list acouple solutions for you.

1. Reset the Video Output Settings. While the PLAYSTATION 3 system is in standby mode (red light on the front of the system), hold down the touch-sensitive On/Off button on the front of the system until the system goes into standby mode again . (So the light cycle would go from: red light to --> green light --> then back to red light) This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long enough to reset the Video Output Settings. Once you turn it back on, it should work fine.

2. If option 1 does not work call Sony because the video out chip has blown or come unsoldered.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

If you are using an HD cable (i.e. VGA, Component, HDMI) then is your tv set to display HD, and with the right video input?

If you are using SD cables (i.e. compose, s-video) Is your PS3 set to send that SD signal?

---- Try turning on your TV, turning on you PS3 and holding the PS3
power button for 10-15 sec. then it should set to what cable you are
    using.

and of course make sure your TV is on the right 'channel' or input, so that the siganl from the ps3 will be shown/heard

The last thing you can do is hold down the On/Off button on the front of the system and then the system will go into standby mode. You will see the light will go from red light to green light then back to red
light. This will ensure that you have held down the On/Off button long
enough to reset the Video Output Settings. If you still face the problem then you will have to get it repaired because your video card is blown. If it is under warranty get it replaced or else the repair can cost upto $150.

    Goodluck..

My picture started flickering the other night while playing a game. Then I went to turn it on today and I can't get a picture, there is still sound however. Thinking maybe a video card problem or something...

Its sounds like a video cord problem, if you are hooked up by the yellow red and white cords to your TV, adjust them until the picture returns, its a VERY common problem on EVERY TV and console since the SNES. Could also be the plug on the back of the PS3 if you just play with the cords your problem should resolve.

I have a Pioneer PDP-R05FE 43'' TV. When I connect my PS3 to show Blue Ray films I get a flicker in the picture. It is connected using a good quality HDMI cable. There is no flicker when playing SD films...

go into your dispay menu and adjust the response 50-60hrz or if your tv is capped at 1080i then drop the ps3 to 720p and that will smooth it out alittle too as the interlaced picture is alittle choppy apposed to progressive picures and finally sometimes they just do it no rhyme or reason to it so dont go crazy about this ok :)

if the problem persists outside of the ps3, i'd say its time for a new tv. however if it doesnt you can try checking your video plug and make sure its still securely in there
