Question about GE Nautilus 24" Built-in Dishwasher

2 Answers

GE Nautilus My dishwasher is approx. 6 years old. It has recently started having this problem. On the second cycle (the one where the little door inside opens and release the soap) does not want to work right. The door will open, but it is like there is no water spraying to spread it out. The soap (I've tried both liquid and powder) sticks and drys, running down the door and in the bottom of the tray. I have to open the machine and add the soap to the bottom of the machine if I want to get my dishes washed. My friends little boy came over and turned the knob really fast and crazy...I am afraid he might have messed up my dishwasher since it's seemed to have this problem every since he attacked my dishwasher!!

I'd like to know what could be some of the problems with the machine (timer, etc. messed up?) What might I look for? I don't consider a 6 year old dishwasher being "old" since it's only been used 3 to 4 times a week since it was bought. Only 2 adults in the family, so there arn't that many dirty dishes in a day's time. Telling me to consider buying a new one wasn't very helpful.

Smoking from GE (Model:gsd3725f00bb) dishwasher
We moved in an old house, the dishwasher had been installed. but today we found smoking from the dishwasher and smells burned plastic. Could you have any resolution for me? or this problem is popular on this model?

Hi Lisa in AR

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: Why won't your soap dispense anymore?

Yes, you're correct. This is best looked at by a local pro! You may want to compare the cost of repairing a six year old dishwasher now verses temporarily putting the soap in manually till you can find a good price on a new one. Personally, I loath throwing good money after bad so I go for the latter and we're coming up on the holiday discount season.

    Hi again,

The word "old" is relative. If you want to spend perhaps $ 300 for a new control on a six year "old" d/w thats fine. But my advice for your case was given with your best interests at hart. With a discount, a new d/w will only run you about $ 400. As you can see i was trying to save you some grief. How would you feel if I told you to repair it then it still didn't work right, which happens all the time. Even if you had the knowledge and tools to do the repair, the part still costs over $ 100 and you'll spend up to half a day. What's your time worth? I stand by my original posting.

PS. you also called it "old"

Recently glasses started to finish foggy and

MOST OF THE TIME "FOGGY GLASS" IS A RESULT OF SOAP BUILD UO IN THE DISHWASHER. IF YOU HAVE A WATER SOFTENER AND FILL THE SOAP CUP ALL THE WAY THEN THIS IS THE CASE. FILL A COFFEE CUP WITH WHITE VINEGAR AND PLACE IT ON THE UPPER RACK, RUN AN EMPTY LOAD ON HEAVY DUTY WASH, THIS WILL STOP THE PROBLEM, YOU MIGHT NEED TO REPEAT IT 2-3 TIMES BUT IT WILL WORK, AFTER THAT JUST USE AS LITTLE SOAP AS YOU CAN, IN MY GE I USE POWDERED CASCADE BUT ONLY FILL THE SOAP CUO TO THE BOTTOM LINE, WORKS GREAT. GOOD LUCK

Sounds like you need a new timer. Costs about $50 - $60. I had the same problem. The knob now turns. Hope this helps.

Check the pump, make sure it is working properly and pumping water out. If it is then check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged.

GE DISHWASHER LEAKS AT LEFT CORNER

Have the same dishwasher and happens sometimes to mine when the door doesn't close properly because it is hitting the cabinet front. Try pulling up and forward from the bottom of the door when it is closed. if the bottom comes forward this could make the difference and stop the leak.

GE Nautilus Drain Problem

I had the same problem (water remaining in the bottom) after the rinse cycle. FYI my GE Nautilus is 7-years old.
(1) I disconnected the drain tube at the garbage disposal unit (in the sink) and, using a wire coat hangar freed a 'plug' of sludge located at the spot where the drain tube clamps onto the garbage disposal. I blew into the drainage tube to further clear other 'plugs' I observed but could not reach w/the coat hangar.
(2) I unscrewed the Filter/Strainer on the inside (bottom) of the dishwasher; and further removed the inner filter; cleaned both out.
(3) Re-ran the dishwasher thru complete wash/rinse cycles (to check for leaks. There were none.
Finally, upon completion of the w/r cycles there will always be a small pool of water (residing in the filter area). However my dishes are clean and (after 7-years) checking the drain tube and filters was a breeze.
Hope this helps

GE Nautilus Dishwasher - The soap door is stuck partcially open

Advance the timer, with one hand on the dispenser door. The timer should release the door at times during it's cycle, it may need a little help, but not very hard to turn.

GE Nautilus won't drain after Rinse Cycle

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.
