Question about Samsung DVD-VR375 DVD Recorder/VCR

Recording on Samsung VR375

Recording with a DVD-RW, I keep getting the message "Disc can neither be read nor recorded" after a couple of uses. So I have to discard disc. These are new, clean, uncorrupted discs (Sony 4.7GB).

Any info on why this keeps happening & how I can avoid it.

I have the same message but it will not play any dvd's or record them. just says can't read message. the samsung is only 3 months old

I have the same problem and am getting really frustrated. I called Samsung today and they said to make sure input setting was on AV1. That fixed the problem and I could finalize the disk and view it on a separate DVD. But when I tried it on a new recorded disk, it said "cannot read disk." I am using Sony DVD's which have worked up until now. Could it be anything else?

I am having the same problem. Samsung online rep said to USE Sony DVD's. I also hear that you will have better luck with DVD-RW discs.

Most blank DVD media is produced by a relative small number of factories, located in several different places. These factories are present in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Mexico, Hong Kong, India, and Ireland... maybe a few more, but not many. The best media generally comes from Japan and Singapore. The worst typically comes from Taiwan (in stores) and Hong Kong (online).

The media brands means nothing. Apple is a great brand, but they do not make their own discs, instead outsourcing to MXL (Hitachi/Maxell), MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals), and PVC (Pioneer). Verbatim became infamous by switching from high-quality MCC to ultra-cheap CMC (CMC Magnetics) media, although they have since returned to using MCC. Companies like Memorex, Fuji and Imation all outsource to media vendors.

    Same problem here, plus another:

Seemingly records fine until time to finalize and name the disc. Press menu to do so and the disc settings option is grayed out. Same lot of blank DVDs works on some discs, not others. What the hell ...?

I finally got this to work

First: Turn OFF the EZ-Record menu option. This option will automatically finalize disks when they are 30% full. Also it will force all disks to to formatted as V instead of VR. NEVER USE EZ-RECORD

    Second: Set Mode to VR

Third: Use Sony DVD-RW disks. Not +RW, -R, +R; etc.

Finally: Ensure that you have enough disk space for the Time/Mode you are planning to use.

    This worked for me.

Hope this helps somebody. Good Luck.

Sony is not a good brand for buying DVD's. One option for you with the sony discs will be to try it in a computer and see whether it reads the disc. Also you can try using formatting using a software program like nero and see whether the samsung can recognize the disc.
Next time buy good quality discs...look up some reviews on the net.

Playback on recorded disk

The DVD has burned incorrectly and the data has likely corrupted somewhat to the point where the DVD player/writer can't read it. You may be able to watch it on your computer with a DVD drive. Try saving it to your computer, then erasing the disc and trying to record something short to it and play it back - if it plays back, it's likely to have been a recording problem, however, if you get the same problem, it may be a dodgy disc, a faulty DVD player/writer, or a format problem. Try this, in order left to right. Copy DVD to PC -> Erase DVD -> Record on DVD from TV -> Play back If plays back Erase DVD -> Continue as normal If not Buy DVD-RW (emphasis on the minus) -> Try using that If that works continue as normal, otherwise... Return the DVD player/writer under warranty for repair/replacement.

After recording a program on a DVD+R disc, the TV screen says "Disc Finalize Processing...." and nothing else works. I can't stop it, watch it, finalize it, or power off.

The DVD burner in your DVD-VR is defective. Get it replaced at a service center. Is is not able to read the lead in lead out information from your disc. Try playing one of the disc you have written on another DVD player.

Problems with the DVD-VR375

If discs skip, freeze or doesn't read, along with the recording problem, then it could be a dirty lens. If cleaning lens doesn't fix it the optical p/u assembly will have to be replaced. Make sure the items you are trying to record aren't copy guarded.

When I record a dvd on my vr375 it will not play on my DSE dvd player .I am useing a Sony -RW DVD

before the disc will play on other players, you need to "finalise" the disc. Finalisation ensures compatibility with other devices. Go into the "Setup" menu, and look for "Disk Manager", there will be a finalise option. select the option, and after approx. 3mins the disc will play on other players.

If exact model is Samsung DVD-VR357, than it doesn't even has to recognise blank disc as your unit is DVD PLAYER with Video Casette Recorder.

See Specs. for your unit below:
Function Combination VCR Y Compatibility Playback Media DVD-R,DVD-RW,DVD+R,DVD+RW,CD-R/RW,CD,VHS, DVD-RAM Playback Formats MP3, WMA, JPEG, MPEG-4, DivX A/V Quality Progressive Scan Y HD Upconversion 720p/1080i Digital-to-Analog Converter 10-Bit/54MHz DTS Output Y Dolby Digital Surround Sound Y Connectivity HDMI CEC Y Convenience Child Protection Parental Control Physical Features Connectivity HDMI Output Y Component Video Output 1(Rear) S-Video Output 1(Rear) Composite Video Output 1(Rear) Coaxial Digital Audio Outputs 1(Rear) Optical Audio Output 1(Rear) Product Weight & Dimensions Dimension 16.9" x 3.1" x 11" Weight 8.8Lbs. Shipment Weight & Dimensions Dimension 20.2" x 7.1" x 15.1" Weight 12.1Lbs.

Closest model match for DVD recording unit would be DVD-VR375

Unfortunately you have player only and you won't be able to recor DVDs with it whatsoever.

Good luck

DVD+RW playback problem(s)

same prob with the shows freezing up

with a DVD+/- RW disc the amout of time keeps dropping because with every recording process the disc loses a life you can burn those disc 200 times before they become useless so the disc might be beyond the life peroid or bad

my prob is with the DVD-/+R disc tho and i figured it out the disc was bad

for the grinding noise if its hi piched its normal thats the disc spinning up to read or write speed

if that not the case something is rubbing in there and that might explaine the writting errors

**DISCLAMER**
the disc manurfacture dose not take resposnablity for defective disc and any loss they have caused(if the data is lost)
