Question about Washing Machines
5 yrs old, now won't drain. I've had all the hoses disconnected and if I keep putting spin only programme on I can get enough water out of the drum to remove the very wet clothes. I'm assuming it is the pump that needs replacing?? Or is there anything else I can try first? If it is the pump I see they are £40 ish from hotpoint, is it necessary to get someone to fit this for me or would I be able to do it myself. I only ask as due to the age of the machine and the fact that the door hinge snapped over 2 yrs ago I'm thinking its probably not worth the money to fix. Thanks
Check that your outlet pipe rises above the stated height on the back of the machine (about 3/4 of the way up). If it is too low, it will siphon the water out of the drum. If you're not sure what height it should be at, raise the top of the pipe (ie where it bends back into the outflow pipe) above the top of the machine (if you have room) or as high as you can. It must be above the height of the drum.

Power off the mains. The
filter is located behind the silver plate at the back of the machine at
bottom. Four screws hold it on. Drain
out all the water. The filter is inside
the big black rubber hose attached between the pump and the main drum.
the plastic clip holding it to the pump unit and then the metal cir clip
holding it to the main drum. Inside is a white molded cone and a big
which floats. You will find a lot of junk here, clean out thoroughly. To
put white cone back inside just as you found it, at the bottom, fit ball
into the cone. Attach to the bottom to the drum and re-fasten the cir
Finally reconnect the gator to the pump unit and tighten the plastic
clip. Check out the pump too before reconnecting.

The 03 error code is the drain. Disconnect the drain hoses
and check for blockages. If no blockage "time" the drain interval. If
it's more than 6 minutes it's the pump. Also make sure you're using the
type of soap so the ball check valve on the bottom of the outer drum
getting fouled with excessive suds. Also disconnect the drain hose from
house plumbing and let it free flow on it's own. This will tell you if
block is in your plumbing, and not in the machine. Assuming that your filter is clean.
