It could be the CCD, fuji has admited a few of their models have the faulty CCDs and there is a list of serial numbers you can look and see if yours is in the list. You may want to call them and see what they say. Ide try and call a few different times if they say it isnt, try again later and see if you can talk to a different opperator. Some may or may not know so dont just take the first pesons word for it if they say no.

If you bang on the side of the cammera does it work ok again? usualy if its the CCD problem a bang on the side of the camera fairly hard is enough of a shock to cause it to work again.

Agreed. Batches of CCD's (the thing that records the image) were "faulty" in that they would eventually allow moisture to enter its casing (lack of a proper seal). It could happen early in the camera's life if used in humid conditions, or the camera could work for several years before the problem occurs. No real fix, except for CCD replacement, which is cost prohibitive. Some manufacturers will repair it out of customer goodwill, so it's worth contacting their customer service or repair departments to plead your case. Good luck.
