Yamaha P-4500 Hello guys here, I have just got across of this nice amp P-4500 with no powering up problem.Few gentle touches inside and I know there is problem with primary on power transformer.Have no idea how does it happened, because there is nothing burned or smelly, but primary is shortened.Would be possible, if someone may drop here the values for this transformer ? Voltage, resistance. Many thanks Radek from New Zealand

    Hi robotek,

Yes it is toroidal transformer with outer diameter ca 18 cm and very heavy, would guess over 7kg.
And the symptom is exactly as you said, it does blow fuses. More accurately said one of two, probably the weakest one.
I have removed transformer from chassis and disconnect all wires. Then I was able measure resistance on primary which was around 1.8 ohms. That is pretty low for 650 VA transformer I think.

My ipod wont charge anymore

Are you using the charger that came with the ipod? Some aftermarket chargers don't treat apple products nicely. I would take it back where you bought it and check it out with them.

Loud pop from Range, stove top still works

The pop was a shorted wire.
The short drew sudden over-amp at breaker.
Amps = heat.
Breaker senses heat and trips before wire to oven is damaged, and before the arcing short can cause a fire.
Was the short at the element?
I don't know, but sounds like the circuit board was damaged.
Of course they are putting electronics inside all appliances today instead of old mechanical dial, because it's cheaper or so much prettier... but new appliances more vulnerable to surge, and other electrical failures. Which is true for all 240V appliances not protected by whole house surge protector.
To test element.
Remove element.
Use a continuity tester across the element connections.
If there is continuity, then the element is probably functional.
Use a multimeter across same element, set multimeter to read ohms.
240 Volt, 3500 watt element should be about 16 ohms.
4500 watt about 12-13 ohms
Volts squared divided by watts = ohms
57,600 divided by 4500 watt = 12.8 ohms

I would guess that the short fried the circuit board, but there is a also a shorted wire somewhere that is still bare and dangerous while power is ON and you are touching oven or stove, unless 240V breaker is GFCI or arc fault, which probably not. Especially dangerous if you are moving stuff around trying to find problem while power is ON.

When playin my yamaha psrE313 i notice that sometimes when I hit the C note it plays at an intensity based on how i touch it, but it will suddenly jus play at max intensity. That is to say if i touch it...

Hi Mikey,
Being a keyboard player and owner of various different keyboards, I wonder if there is a button there that either activates/deactivates the 'touch' sensitivity of the keys. As you say it only happens on the "C" key, I can't narrow it down to anything specific other than something may be under the key itself. If you are mechanically inclined, you can remove the bottom and be gentle, take it apart and see if there is anything inside the keyboard to make it stick or is jumping across the contacts. I've been inside a few of those units and they aren't as daunting as they may seem. If you don't feel safe to do this, you may just bring it to your local music shop and they would do it for a charge.
Hope this gives you some relief

I have a 6 year old 4500 watt gen, I have a 30 amp rv hookup, I have a coverter to 20 amp plug, want to plug it in but if the plug touches the outlet it trips the GFCI on it so I have to reset it. works...

There are some things you need to test, make sure a wire isn't pulled out of the inside of the plug and is toughing any other wire inside the plug, then test the gen with a meter to see what is power and what is ground, some where power is toughing ground.

My rx-v3000 will not power up and i hear a relay clicking as long as its plugged in.

You have a short ANYWHERE in your amp.If you work with metal (espically) metal filings which can get into your amp with wind breeze, could cause a short. I personally repaired a amp with a dead bug across the power transformer (German made 25 TAP) Try this. blow a HEAVY blower inside, around, under & through the amp (PLEASE! unplug from power sourch) yea! turn the amp upside down and do it again! If that don't work...take it to a expert for diagonstic work

Sound card recommendations for high end hi-fi

Find somewhere that deals Yamaha pci cards and a good rep will do the rest, for what you are doing I ONLY recommend Yamaha. Clearest sound going hands down. NICE setup by the way! My closest freind does sound mixing for live events in the Moncton Coliseum and swears by Yamaha, through much trial and error, for the xcard.

No Power

It appears that there may be an open trace inside the amp. This assumes that the ground connection between the amplifier and the vehicle is intact.

Don't allow the RCAs to contact anything other than the RCA jacks of the amp. Some head units are easily damaged when the RCA shield contacts a power source.

The amplifier will need to be repaired. It's a simple repair and shouldn't be expensive.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Power problem

Make sure that your speaker cables are not touching each other or the case of the amp, also check cables at the speakers as this will cause the amp to switch off.

hope this helps.
