Deleting my C drive

My computer is in fact a dv9665eo, couldnt find it among valid products :)

Hey ekse

So have both vista and xp installed, vista on my C drive and xp on my D drive. I have decided that im now ready to uninstall vista and wondered if it would be safe to just plain format my C drive, and if it is, how would you suggest i do it ?

Should i remove vista from my bootloader before formatting the C drive?

Thank you

    Thank you

Judging by what you say this is really complex, and its not something i want to do, basicly i was just into "sacrificing" my vista drive to have a easy cleanup, but ill just do it manually, thank you ^^

Hey,

Unfortunately, windows stores the start up files in the first drive, thats most likely c.. What you can do is. You can delete the windows vista folder from c drive. And then you need to edit the boot ini file so it automatically starts up xp.

Basicly in xp, delete everything related to vista, the windows folder and applications on vista. be carefull not to delete anything important. Ones you have cleaned the c drive of vista, by hand, you can erase the vista startup entry by

press start -> run -> type in msconfig

as you can see I also have a few windowses installed, haven't bothered to clean up due to 1 000 GB drive :-P Anyways just click check boot paths, it should find that the vista is now invalid since you deleted the folder, now it wont bother you at the start up.

Sorry but right now I don't have a good method of moving the bootup files from C to D and then erasing the C drive.. without reinstalling xp on the c drive. Its pretty complex.

let me know if any problems come up.

basicly if you format C, most likely you can't start up after that, and I haven't bothered to figure out how to rebuild the bootloader.

rasheedtalib:See, I have an original Home edition CD which was purchased. If and when I insert it into one of my floppy drives, what option I must choose from among those tht come up on the monitor screen as soon as I open the Home CD. Please answer. Rasheed.
Ekse:You select, "enter to continue setup" Not Repair, Not Recovery.
Ekse:then the agreement comes up, and you need to press F8
Ekse:Then you are shown a list of previous installed windows versions, press ESC to not repair them
Ekse:Now, you can format the C drive by deleting it, and then pressing enter to install into the unpartitioned space
Ekse:then you are asked to select FAT or NTFS filesystem and quick or long format
Ekse:then the setup goes on as normal
Ekse:note that this does not work if you are in windows, you need to turn off the computer, then power it on, press a key to start from the cd and then follow those instructions, if you have problems please read this page for full set of instructions on how to install window.

Cannot load valid copy of Office 2003, Adobe 7.0 pro, quickbooks

If it is a "new" computer, and Office 2003 and Adobe 7.0 Professional came "pre-installed" on your computer, then take everything back to where you bought the computer, and get them to assist you. If they are at all a "responsible" retailer, they will support the products that they have sold to you.

If you have your own copy of Office 2003, and you are trying to install it, then start Vista's "Program Compatibility Wizard", and select that you want to install an "XP" program, and select the CD-ROM as the "source" for the software that you want to install.

Vista will wrap an "envelope" around Office 2003, to emulate a Windows XP environment.

Same for Quickbooks and for Adobe software.

MY WIDOWS XP WONT BOOT IN ANY MOOD

Hey,

you will need a copy of the windows installation cd or the recovery media that comes with the computer.

Ones you have that you have to reinstall windows or restore from the recovery media to get your computer working normally again.

You can also take the computer to a local professional who can install it for you if you don't have the disc.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,

XP OS in Compaq Laptop

Hey,

Yes, but HP doesn't provide the drivers for the laptop, they only provide Vista drivers for this model.

After the xp setup you would need to find drivers for the computer from the internet. but hp doesn't provide the drivers.

So this might become a headache for you.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Problem with my screen

must be the drivers, or the laptop may be overheating, maybe too much dust in the ventilation.. easyest way to clean the dust would be to use canned air, but here are the drivers i found from hp website

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=en&product=3631226&

you could also check windows update for newer drivers
www.windowsupdate.com (need to be on the laptop)

I was looking around the specs of the laptop,, you got a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS? is that right?

You on windows xp?

then here are the latest drivers, just released few days ago
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20121

note that the drivers will probably not install on your laptop and complain about not found details of your videocard.

if you got the nvidia 8600m you need to download this modifyed inf file
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/175series/17789/nv4_disp.inf

you need to run the setup program, extract it somewhere, and then you need to place the modifyed nv4disp inside the setup folder, you will need to replace the old file, after that the drivers will install.

if you got a diffrent windows (not xp 32bit)
then look here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
