This is a very common problem with the DC18s. basicly the carraige assy needs to be replaced. what happens is that there is a valve that is engaged when you recline the vaccum. well when the peice that is broken the valve wont move so it is stuck with constant suction and the hose and will never swich to the cleaner head. You need to take it in to a Dyson Authorized Dealer and have it replaced. if you have your proof of purchase and your within the first 5 years of owning the vacuum it will be covered under warranty. if you dont have your proof of purchase they will not be able to cover it under warranty. it will run you about $100 to $115 to get it replaced.

My Dyson Vacuum DC24 suction loss.

You sound pretty savvy in your troubleshooting. Take a look at this video. You may have a split in one of your three suction hoses. I tried to find a video for a DC24 but to no avail. These two models are pretty close and this video should help you out.

Won't switch from hose to base suction

Hi There,
Alec from VacuumSpot here. The problem is relatively common, there is a fault in the part that is called the undercarriage. It is a bit of a tricky one to fix but only requires one part that costs about $60 (Australian) from memory.

Hi, my Dyson slim does not have any suction in the wand/hose. The vacuum itself works, just not the hose. I have unattached the hose, by unclipping it at the base, to make sure there are no rips or

Your changeover valve arm is more then likely broken or cracked. If so you will have to change out your under carriage assy. it's a pretty big job. I would recommend having an authorized Dyson service center change this for you as pretty much the whole machine will have to come apart. I attached a photo to show you the problem area.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

Most of the time the reason why the vacuum is not picking up is due to loss of suction. You may need to check for blockages of your wand and hose. Remove the wand and hose from your cleaner when checking for blockages and any damages. Make sure to turn off and unplug your vacuum from the power before doing this.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It would be worth checking that the brush bar is turning when the machine is in the vacuuming position. If it is not turning, please press the re-set switch located on the cleanerhead.

If this starts the brush bar turning but does not solve the problem, please check the cleanerhead for blockages and remobve any threads or hair trapped around the brush bar.

Shoudl you need any further help or advice, please contact our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards

Dyson Slim DC 18 all floors has no suction from the beater bar, but works great from the hose.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Its possible that the brush bar is not turning when you release the head into the vacuuming position. Please ensure you complete a full blockage procedure as per your user guide to see if this resolves the problem. If you do not have a copy of the user guide to hand, please visit the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Alternatively, if you still need some help or advice with your Dyson, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Dyson 18 losing suction

Check the HEPA filter if it has one. This bit of foam gets clogged over time and significantly reduces the suction especially if you've been vacuuming a lot of very dusty areas i.e. dust from building work etc. Just wash the filter with lots of water and leave to dry before reinserting.
