Minolta 5600 flash on Sony A200 camera hot shoe problem

I am a volunteer chief in south Louisiana. We had a minolta camera which we lost in the hurricane in 2005. we still have a minolta 5600 flash which we have and does a wonderful job for us. we recently replaced our minolta camera with a sony a200 camera. The hot shoe on the camera does is not made strong enough to mount the flash. It has cracked two times. Please explain to me how we can mount the flash on a bracket to keep this from happening. we have contacted the people where we bought the flash from but for some reason they do not handle the sony product. I have figure out how to use the wireless feature between the camera and the flash but it is had to take a picture holding the flash in the air or have another person hold it . where can i get a bracket and chord to prevent the shoe from cracking again. thanks

This is what you need:

http://cgi.ebay.com/TTL-Cord-Flash-Bracket-Sony-Alpha-A700-Digital-Camera_W0QQitemZ290258666395QQihZ019QQcategoryZ48515QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

it screws into the mount underneath your camera, connects via a cord to your hotshoe mount, and your flash willl then sit next to your camera mounted on this flash bracket.

Wide angle defuser is broken Minolta 5600hs

It's not a problem if you're not using a wide-angle lens. And if you are, you can always diffuse the flash by putting a thin white handkerchief or even a sheet of tissue paper over the flash.

Metz flash sony nex camera

Sony NEX 6 has an ATG/Sony's Multi-Interface-Shoe.

Let's hope the Metz 58AF-2 Flash is made for Sony/Minolta, which has an old Minolta's hotshoe.

Contact Sony for the adapter.
Or just buy the Promaster Sony Multi-Ineterface Shoe Adapter, it less than Sony's.

I have a sony a200, i want to fit an external flash for that.

The camera already has a hot shoe that will accommodate a Sony flash unit or a third-party flash unit designed for Sony cameras. You don't need anything else (other than the camera and the flash unit, of course).

I wish to fit a Minolta/Sony fit flash gun to a Standard Hotshoe which is part of a Brolly holder, using the flash off camera. What I need is an adaptor in reverse. i.e. Minolta/sony foot on top and ...

Yes there are a few such devices. The most common one is the one which appears right next to your question, the Interfit STR114 adapter.

See here for some suppliers.

EBay also often lists similar adapters, although they are often very cheap and sold directly from Chinese suppliers the quality and service are usually very good if you don't mind waiting for delivery. I live in the UK and deliveries from China usually take about a week to ten days, and exceptionally about three weeks.

One thing to watch out for though is that the extended length of the foot with the adapter makes the whole unit far easier to damage as it acts like an extended lever if knocked, and the part which breaks is always the expensive part: usually the flash unit foot or the brolly if you're lucky so take extra care when using the adapter.

How do i replace the hot shoe mount on a sony a200

You take it to a repair center. This is not a toaster. Its a precision instrument. A modern camera is not user serviceable. Contact Sony on their website to find out where to send it. If you are in the USA then its Precision Camera Repair. Look them up on the internet.
Again, do not attempt this yourself.
One reason is the built in flash. The charging capacitor for the flash retains its power after the camera has been shut down, and can give you one heck of a shock or fry a circuit board that falls down where it doesn't belong.

Added flash mount

LOLEE, I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT FLASH, BUT I HAVE SOME GENERAL INFO THAT MIGHT HELP. FIRST, IS THIS FLASH USING THE CAMERA " HOT SHOE " MOUNT? IF IT IS, ARE YOU SURE THAT THE FLASH IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE HOT SHOE? NEXT, IS THIS FLASH COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA? YOU SEE, SOMEHOW THE CAMERA IS NOT GETTING THE INFO THAT THE FLASH IS CONNECTED. I WOULD CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, JUST REPLY.

How to power up a Minolta Program 3500 xi flash through a Canon S5 IS?

Im sure that model of Flash. Does the minolta flash fit the hot shoe of the Canon?
If it does then I would first try seting the flash to manual mode and adjusting that.
Let me know if the Flash does not fit and I will try to help you from there.
Take Care,
Caleb

Flash compatibility

Sorta, it will flash, but only in manual mode, all the benefits of having a gee whizbang electronic flash are lost jumping from the film to digital cameras, the film cameras metered the flash off the film plain, and quenched it when enough light had hit the film, they couldn't apparently figure out how to do the same thing for the digital sensor, so the flashes behave differently,  you need a D flash like the 3600 or 5600 to get automatic flash with the KM 5d, 7d, or sony A100 cameras... sorry... if it's any consolation, I'm in the same boat. :(
