Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

My LG 42LB9DF plasma TV worked just fine when I bought it a year ago, but the reception is now intermittently breaking up (pixellating) and the sound is will make a noise and cut in and out. We can't work out whether it's the antenna, or if it's the internal tuner?

SOURCE: 42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

SOURCE: no picture but sound on panasonic plasma

Unplug the TV and disconnect any HDMI cables to the set. If the issue goes away there is a possibility that your HDMI source is causing the problem. Anything on the HDMI can cause odd problems with the TV since the serial data and serail clock lines are routed on HDMI. Those are the 2 commmunication lines used throught the TV for operation so anything HDMI that might load down one of those can cause issues.

SOURCE: DVB not working on panasonic

Check the arial cable - not just the connections. Problem noted was due to an inferior cable that was not up to the job. It also ran alongside a central heating radiotor and pipes - not a good combination apparantly!

SOURCE: signal issues with my Insignia DTV converter box

As far as the antenna goes..NO. It is still an RF signal. The antenna just needs to be good for the frequency range of the stations you are receiving. The station numbers and frequency don't necessarily match like they use to. They are all over the place now.

if the picture keeps breaking up and pixelating it is normally a reception issue rather than a problem with the tv.

If your fan motors have alot of bullted up dust in them set will quit playing correctly . Also most of the LGs need resoldering on power supply boards.

We bought a Philips TV (model : 42PF9966/79) three years ago. Intermittently we are getting a thin black horizontal line through the middle of the screen. What is causing this?

The model number you listed is bad. I think the last 2 numbers should be 37. But it sounds like a plasma tv. In that case the problem can be a bad connection from the driver board to the panel.
Take off the back of the set and reseat ALL of the ribbon cables on the far left and far right sides of the set. If this does not fix the problem, the panel is bad. This is not worth fixing. Buy a new tv.

Philips 42PF9945 on/off switch problems

Hi huttleywoof,

I've had the same problem 1 week ago. Bought new wirewound ceramic resistors (5w 6.8 ohms) and replaced the old ones.... It helped to majority of people who had the same problem, but mine has now some other issues with appearing diffrent colors on the screen which are not supposed to be there :) Like all goes blask with few red pixels or green :-) Having fun now and can;t find service manuals for this TV :(
