Question about NEC AccuSync 90 19 in.CRT Conventional Monitor

2 Answers

Vertical distortion Monitor works fine but after a few minutes the image drops to the lower half of the screen. Vertical sync appears to be the problem. Need schematic to find component to replace. magalluzzox@hotmail.com

No problem with another monitor. Freeze spray an option. Brogan maintenance seems to work. Slapped the monitor on the side and it corrected the problem. Will check all connections. Plugs, CRT connector, etc.
P.S Have two motherboards to recap now.

Have you tried a different monitor to be sure it's not a source problem? Don't know easily how to find a schematic. You could get some freeze spray and carefully spray components. It could also be a power supply issue.

With extreme care I have used a non-conductive tool, like the back end of a screw driver and flexed the circuit baord on a TV and eventually traced the problem to a cracked solder joint near the high voltage transformer. Slightly tapping on the tops of capacitors using the above method may also help. Working without a schematic is tough.

Change your screen resolution to the highest setting first, in control panel, appearance/ themes. Next Push smart button on bottom right of monitor. Cinema mode should be highlighted hit autoset on monitor. Next hit the FUN button and highlight the 4:3 screen setting. This will expand your image to fit the screen without giving it that stretched and distorted appearance.

How do I adjust the image width on this wide screen? Everything appears distorted and wider than it is. I would like a narrower image.

This is one of the problems with the wide aspect screen. Most images seem to fit best on the older monitors.
You can go into the video properties and choose one the the display types that best display your image. Unfortunately, by taking a normal (to us) image that looked just fine on an older monitor and displaying it on a newer, wide-aspect monitor, you're gonna distort the image or crop it in a way you didn't expect.
My advice is to experiment with the display until you find something you can live with.

It probably isn't worth repairing as the cost will exceed what you would spend on replacing it.

A 20" monitor gets a black screen when turned on

sounds like you might have a back lighting issue? take a flash light and shine it on the monitor when it is black and look to see if the image is there but not lit up, if this is the case then you might need to change the light balist in the monitor of even the back lights themselfs..
if the picture is fuzzy for a long period of time then you have a controler card issue there is a controler card in the monitor that changes the image coming in from HDMI, VGA, DVI into the binary that the vertical and horizontal drivers use to show you the image onthe screen... hope this info helps. good luck

Distorted shrunken picture

hi

reduce the resolution to a bit lower and the refresh rate to a nominal 60hz and things should get back to normal

my hunch is u r using a slightly high resolution and refresh rates

but before that try the buttons on the monitor to see if expanding the image sideways or top and bottom would help initially

cheers
pls rate if this was any help

Distortion in Monitor

Your problem is simply a leaky capacitor on the vertical oscillator circuit on your monitor. Try replacing the ones with 10uF values.

Width increases a bit on lowering and incresing resolution

Hence my earlier suggestion of lowering the resolution, it was actually a test.

Now we are getting somewhere. Yoke is definitely out, opposing diode pair is also out. The remote chance of the horizontal sync/oscillator is also out. That leaves us only with a possible resistor that has gone up in value (or is open) (least likely) and/or a capacitor (most likely) that has leaked, bulged or whose capacitance has gone down.

Perhaps a service manual would be of more help.

Good luck.
