    Tim,

I've done component level repairs on a number of electronic items, including repairing the foil on pc boards - should be no problem - just need to know what to look for...and which componants to replace.

    thanks

Your convergence IC's most likely need to be changed, possibly some resistors as well.
Do you know how to solder and use a meter? If so you may be able to fix this yourself for under $100. If not you will need to repairman to repair it, this should cost around $300-$500 Let me know if you want to repair it so i can get you going.

There are 2 large ic's mounted on a heat sink. Part numbers should start with STK-392. Change both of these and check all the resistors around them and make sure none of them are open. If you find an open resistor send me the location of it and I will get you a value for it. If you have any questions as to what parts to change or what resistors to check, post a picture on here and I will circle what you need. Let me know what I can do to help!

JVC AV56-WP74 Convergence problem

Hello saduchan,

I think that your ICs are ok, What you need to perform is what is called dynamic convergence, This involves using the internal convergence controls to align the outer edges of the screen. I am assuming that the center of the screen is ok? it's just the edges which are misaligned, right? Now for the bad news, this task is not easy in fact the job takes a pro about 6 to 12 hours to do it right. I think you should have a qualified TV technician attempt the static convergence setup followed by the dynamic convergence setup.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Phillips 60in projection,rred/greenish 3d effect

the two resistors were likely burnt out with a convergence IC (chip). these are usually a stk392-120 on a philips, or simmilar. the alignments can be very tedious and difficult. what needs to be done is replace the ICs that control the colors that are mis-aligned. you might see that the green is square and straight, but the red or blue is off. in most cases, i would just change both convergence ICs plus the bad resistors. then go to your full re-alignment of convergence to fix the picture. hopefully the previous owner didn't mess anything up too much (if they changed anything on the CRTs ie yokes, lens focus, centering magnets it could counteract your electronic adjusments). before you put too much time into it, look to see that all 3 colors are atleast focused and it appears that the CRTs have been left untouched. once you get circuit repaired, you will probably want a service manual to help with alignment. this complexity may bring you to want to just pay for this repair, could run you anywhere from $200-400 depending on severity and local rates.

your convergence is off. u need to get in service mode to correct this problem. its pretty in depth and time assuming. u need to go to servicemanuals.net and for 15 bucks u can get a service manual. it has every thing u need to fix that tv. i had same problem but i had all 3 colors out of whak. i see alot of people on this forum changing the ic's and resistors to fix convergence problem, (me too)and nothing works. i got this manual and saved me alot of money. its been 3 months since i corrected it and i am still watching it. good luck.

51mp392h Blue Convergence Problem

Hello rogeuryder,

This is the one thing that even make TV repair persons shudder. You don't really have a convergence problem in the normal sense. The convergence works. What you have is a misaligned convergence situation which any documentation and or book on TV repair will tell you that at this point manual convergence adjustment is needed and the only thing you will have to do is keep trying to adjust the convergence until you get the center aligned, and then work towards the outer edges using both static (Center) and dynamic (outer edges) convergence techniques.

As this may sound it is; Very Very Tedious.

Here is something that may help you:

http://books.google.com/books?id=ttBofTJM7FEC&pg=PA112&lpg=PA112&dq=static+convergence&source=web&ots=hyUMeeY9s6&sig=DZm27q1aMbLiwKA__fyysBd2yUE&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=9&ct=result#PPA112,M1

I have used this book when I use to teach TV repair. I hope you discover what I am tried to convey in my e-mail, this is no longer a question of can you fix a TV? It has become a question of do you have the patience to adjust a TV.

Good fortune in doing this, you will succeed if you just take your time and do static convergence first and then do the dynamic convergence with the manual controls. The procedure will be in the service manual.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Convergence problems

I would suggest the convergence ICs as well as a couple resistors right near the Convergence ICs mst likely. 90 % of the time thats the problem. They are not expensive, if you can solder you can handle it if your careful with your solder and use heat sink compound. The ICs will have a number stamped on them usually STK XXX-XXX on a huge heat sink. The following link will have replacement parts http://electronix.com/ Hope this helps you out

most like tes thats all your going to have to replace + the silicon as if you dont thet wil not last as long as they should. Also you may have blow fuseable resistors next to the ICs make sure you check them as well.
