Question about Sansui Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Sansui synthesizer tuner T-909. Tuner keeps on going off-station and making a horrific static/hissing/white noise. Have taken a look inside, and replaced the crumbling leads into the pre-amp. There is some rust on the inside of the tuner cover (where the paint wasn't applied properly during manufacture). It normally sits underneath the amp in the stereo cabinet (open-fronted, no doors). When I place it on the floor, away from the amp, it definitely cuts out less often, but still does it. Is this interference from the amp, or some kind of moisture build-up from being on the shelf? I can't see anything else wrong inside - but I know nothing about tuners, just looking for obvious faults...

Thanks for the response - very helpful and suitably low tech for my level of expertise!

It sounds like there is a transistor that is breaking down because of heat. With the unit placed away from the amp, there is less heat. This unit needs a quick overhaul. If a tech can reproduce the problem, the use of a "freeze" spray will make finding the problem transistor easy. Figure on $5-$10 in parts plus the local labor rate for the total repair.

My sansui subwoofer sb 1000 makes a scratching noise when it is switched on it sounds like white noise

If you are turning a knob to get it to turn on, the rheostat is dirty. You can either take it apart and clean it with tuner cleaner or replace it.

My Denon Audio precision am fm DRa 435R Reciever will not stay on station very long. After about 30 or sometimes 45 minutes it get off station. I have it set to a local FM Station, 97.9 and it plays good...

OK,this is a fairly common problem with digital tuners, I get them from time to time in my shop, you see, what is happening is the voltage that's used to tune the set, usual;y stays rock solid, your device however is drifting off station due to this voltage changing, usually it is in the powers supply or the actual tuner itself. It can be bad capacitors, bad IC's, bad transistors, bad tuner module. Sometimes it maybe a "Dry Joint" too.
The only fix is either a replacement PSU or Tuner or indeed maybe both? One simply cannot tell exactly without examining the unit.

You need to take this unit into a Denon repair center and ask for a "Quote" as to costings etc. Once appraised of that one can proceed from there?
Contact a Denon head or local office and ask them there, for a referral to an authorised service center.

Philips MC156- makes a loud hissing sound when switched on?How do i get rid of this and get the system working?

Do you mean audio hissing sound or is there smoke coming out the back?

In what sources does the hiss occur?

Audio hiss with the FM tuner selected would mean it's between stations or you don't have an antenna. Try tuning around the band with an antenna attached.

Close what?

Connect what to what tuner? It has an internal tuner.

Tuner Omits No Sound - Onkyo TX-SR605 7.1 Channels Receiver

Make sure your receiver is hooked up to proper AM and FM antennae. Try switching to AM, scan stations. If you hear AM static and/or weak signals the problem could be antennas are not hooked up. FM has AFT which blocks out weak or noisey stations and you wont hear anything without ant.

Tv problem

Does it like tune and detune and then retunes back to a pic all by itself??? sounds like the typical problems rca/ge sets mostly have in common with bad tuner grounds.. you must open the set remove the bottom tuner sheild and resolder all the grounds along with the little post that hold on the sheild to the tuner. Now this is not a job for the hobbiest!!! You can cause a small solder splash and ruin the set for life cause you may think that you got out that little solder splash BUt unaware to you you also have taken out some very tiny parts that look like a pieces of dirt that are surface mount resistors and capacitors.
