Hi,
This is a common problem. Your scanner may not be compatible with your operating system or you may get the correct drivers for your scanner that suport yours operating system like Windows xp / Vista whatever. Try instaling the operating system which is compatible with your scanner and the drivers for the scaner. or else download the latest drivers for your scanner. Please give the details of your scanner like type and model number. Thank you

Scanner doesnt have a driver for windows 7

This may help. Depending on your version of windows 7 you may be able to run Windows XP as a virtual machine and still user your scanner under XP Mode. You will have to install the XP driver for your scanner on the XP virtual machine running on your Windows 7 computer.

Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs many older Windows XP productivity programs and that are not natively compatible with Windows 7, thus helping realize cost savings and reduce possible operational downtime by extending the life of existing software.

HERE is the direct link to instructions on downloading and using XP Mode on Windows 7

I contacted help via the chat option...they had me reinstall the software/drivers, and my scanner still doesn't work. I can print but can't scan. I'm using WIndows 7 Home Premium edition on a brand new...

If you installed a windows 7 compatible driver it should work. If the driver you installed is not compatible try running the "troubleshoot compatibility" by by right clicking on the scannner program icon then click on troubleshoot compatibility.

How to scan with mac

    1. Connect a compatible scanner to your computer. A list of compatible scanners is available in technical document 107203 "Mac OS X 10.2: Scanners Compatible With Image Capture "

    2. Install any necessary software drivers that came with the scanner.

Note: Not all scanners require the installation of additional software drivers.

    3. Turn on the scanner.

    4. Press the scan button on the scanner. See the documentation that came with the scanner for specific instructions. Image Capture opens automatically and a preview scan appears.

    5. Select the area of the image you want to scan.

    6. Click Options in the toolbar to adjust settings specific to your scanner.

    7. Adjust any settings in the drawer that appears.

    8. Click Scan.
The scanned image is saved in your Pictures folder in your home directory and opened in Preview.

Note: These are the default options. They can be changed in the Image Capture toolbar.

I bought a new computer window vista and i have a flat bed scanner from canon a n650u/n656u and it worked fine with my windows xp but i need an up date driver for it to work with vista can you help me

According to Canon, the CanoScan N650u/N656U is not compatible with Windows Vista.  They have not released a compatible driver.  You could attempt to use a different driver, but that causes the system to become unstable and crash often, if it works at all.  I recommend upgrading to a Vista-compatible scanner.

My new Dell laptop won't accept my old BenQ flatbed scanner Model no. 6678-9BU.

Many scanners are not compatible with new windows versions, probably the scanner does not work on Vista.
You need to find, download and install the driver for your scanner, if you have the original disk, try using athe disk.

Here is direct link to download . Register with the website first(Create a new account), then download from here:6678 driver (Benq)

If the disk does not install, or you find no drivers, that means the scanner is not compatible with your new system.

HP PSC 2350 Printer/Scanner & just purchased a new computer (Windows Vista) & the discs I have for this printer/scanner only support Windows 2000, XP not Vista.

You can set compatability to windows 2000. I presume you have vista. start menu. control panel, programs... then you will see set compatability or similiar (my control panel won't open at the moment). use the wizard to walk you thru the steps. select the program you are having issues with. It will allow you to run the program as win 2000 compatability.
