The HDD of my Acer Aspire 5102WLMi got broken. I bought a new one, partitoned it, load the D: drive with Acer stuff from backup, mounted it in the laptop and started this with the recovery CD. This recovery CD started but when some system (probably) is loaded, the system hangs when (I guess) it tries to write to the C: disk. In the BIOS the disk is recognized as IDE 0. The field SATA is empty.

The HDD interface on this machine is a PATA so BIOS shows the correct interface as IDE 0. Upon loading up the recovery disc (I'm assuming it's a good condition genuine Acer recovery media), what it does is that it re-images the HDD to the default file system and automatically occupies the full partition of the HDD so if you have already re-partition it, the problem might lie right there. Try to do the following:

1. Erase all partition on the new HDD that you have purchased and format it with NTFS and try to load the Acer recovery discs again.
2. If that won't work, try to use a retail copy of Windows and check if it fully install Windows. If it does, try to create a duplicate copy of your Acer recovery discs, it might just be faulty and try again.

Good Luck.

They don't like two systems on the same computer unless it is set up so.
re install Win7 on drive "C".
You can then restore your backups as Windows Backup/Restore is compatible with older Windows Systems

How long have you owned the notebook? This sounds hardware related. If so then the touch pad would have to be replaced.
