I acutally used to sell this camera all the time. this usually happends when the gears that allow the lens to come in and out are either damaged or not lined up. you're gonna have to put it up for surgery either through sony or a local camera shop. with newer and cheaper camera technology out there combined with high labor costs and camera parts, youre better off buying something else.

Lens goes in and out and error message 'turn

this message comes up if you have dropped your camera. try tapping the device while the message comes up. if that doesn't work then you have to take it to the sony service centre to replace the lens array. it costs about 60$ to replace it.

SONY CYBER SHOT NOT WORKING

Hello samtx930, "turn off the power and on again" its a very commen problem and occurs when the lens block assembly start malfunctioning. Actually the slide motor not work properly and until the lens not come out completely the camera will not work, that's why the error message appears "Access" and then screen shows "turn off the power and on again". In this situation you have to replace lens block assembly. And the part No. is with description is given below: 1-788-363-11 OPTICS UNIT (ED13A) Thanks for using fixya.

When turning camera on, lens opens and closes , then it says turn the power off and on again

The problem is that the lens is jammed.
Here's what I did: I smacked the side of the camera on a tile floor a few times, until the lens started trying to open. Then I used a knife to pry up the lens a little. Believe it or not, it is now taking pictures. You can't imagine how excited I was to get it working.

If this sounds like a joke (it did to me), I got the idea from these forums:

http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Digital%20Camera/Sony/dsc-w50_acess.turn_off_on_again.html

Good luck!

Sony dsc-w55 fell and the lens is stuck

Use bit more force to push or pull the lens as lens has been damaged. If applying bit more force lens goes to working, u saved $$$ otherwise, new lens option is always available at Sony repair shops.

The lens mechanism has had a knock at some time.
Check out the makers support site for a repair price.
Likely you will be buying another camera when you see the price quote
