How do I get spark

Make sure the magneto is not grounded and make sure the air gap between the flywheel magnet and magneto is set to specs. If air gap is too wide, it will be difficult for the magneto to produce an efficient spark.

Briggs Twin opposed 402707 16hp hard to start because it always starts on 1 cyl. the other cyl fires a little. good cyl. is 80psi bad is 70psi. Runs fine when warmed up. air fins are clean. when turned...

Hello John,
Is your spark weaker on 2nd cylinder? If thats the case I would replace the magneto. If spark is equal on both I would look at valves.I am willing to bet it is valves. I would check valves and adjust gap and try again. You could also set air gap of magneto also, but I think it is valves.

Not getting spark to plug on eagerbeaver 2014

Jeffuxum:

The magneto is probably where the problem is. You'll need to pull the cover off of the motor and check the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. If the bolts holding the magneto have vibrated loose, the gap between the magneto and the flywheel will be incorrect. While you have the motor cover off, check the wiring to make sure you don't have a short in your ignition wiring and clean the air filter. I don't remember what the gap is between the flywheel and magneto, but .010 In. sounds familiar. Both legs of the magneto should be the same distance from the flywheel and they must not touch the flywheel at any point. I have used a matchbook cover between the flywheel and magneto while I tightened the magneto retention screws and it worked.

My Stihl ms361c won't start. Want to check air gap on the magneto.Re-set the timing. How? do I do this?

Pull off the side cover where the cord is.Make sure the keyway in the flywheel is not broke and flywheel has not turned. If flywheel did not turn the timing is fine.Too set the air gap you have to loosen the screws on the magneto .Slip a piece of paper or metal that is .010 thick between magneto and flywheel and turn flywheel until magnet pulls magneto down.tighten screws and reinstall cover.

What is the air gap for my magneto on my 25cc homelite weeater?

Should be around .013 to .014. turn flywheel until magnets face magneto insert your feeler gauge and loosen magneto screws...let the magneto stick to the feeler gauge and the magnets... re-tighten the screws, remove feeler gauge, and you should be set...hope this helps. ;-D
