After coming home from a 10 trip with the Dell Inspiron 1525 shut down, I noticed the battery light would blink orange 4 times, blue once, repeat, etc. I started up the computer, found that the battery is 100% charged. What is going on??

I did as the first expert advised. It still has the strange 4 orange, 1 blue repeating Morse code! Is there any hope that I do not have to replace the motherboard, or can I just live with this if there is nothing else to be done?

  • wdguwm Sep 04, 2011

I did what you suggested and, lo and behold, without the battery the compute starts up without the annoying orange-blue blinking sequence. Also, with the AC adapter and just the battery, the computer starts up, less bright screen, and it says it has 1 hr and 37 minutes of charge left, which seems a bit small (?), since it started with "full charge". Diagnosis doctor?

I read my last. Obviously, I meant with the battery only, it still does the bad, and the charge is dropping. However, a double check just a moment ago says the battery has 2 hr 40 min 90% remaining. Strange.

Great help. I will try a new battery.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. Can we try to remove the battery and just connect the AC adapter on the computer and see if the computer will start normally or will not work. We just need to verify if this a problem with the battery or the battery connector of the motherboard. Please let me know what happen so that we can continue troubleshooting.
Thanks

If the battery continuously dropping fast it seems that the battery is the issue.

Hi,
I hope your computer's power port is still okay because the battery is just fine. Let's do a power drain, to do that:

  1. Unplug the Battery and ac adapter.
  2. Press and hold the power button down for about 30 seconds.
  3. Put everything back in.
  4. Turn the computer back on.
If it helped, then good. If not then the computer's motherboard, specially the power port, is defective.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 the battery light was blinking orange and wouldnt come on so listening to an expert i bought a new battery when you first plug it in should the light still be orange??

Hi. Blinking orange light on battery indicator means it's charging. To make sure, point your mouse to the battery icon on the Taskbar located on the lower right-hand corner of your screen...near the system time and speaker icons. It should say plugged in, charging. If you see "plugged in, not charging, then you need to call Dell Phone Support for additional help.

Battery light flashes blue once, orange once. Manual says battery overheated and let it cool. Been cooling for 3 1/2 hrs unplugged from anything and still nothing. No power..and blinking blue to orange...

With battery in, boot to the BIOS, check indications under battery health. I'm pretty sure it will indicate battery decline/failure which will mean, replace the battery.

This is directly from the User Manual:
If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the Battery light operates as follows:
• Solid green: The battery is charging.
• Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.
If the computer is running on a battery, the light operates as follows:
• Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).
• Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.
• Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
