So its been around for a while then.

Here are a couple of things you can try.

  • If there is another PC or laptop in your reach, hook the monitor in question up to that to it and see if you still have the problem.
  • Reboot the PC and Press or tap F8 as soon as the PC reboots until you see a black screen with white writing presenting you with boot options.
Select "Safe mode with Networking" and the PC will load Windows with a reduced number the drivers and services. If Windows boots to the desktop in "Safe mode" with out the issue you described, then your driver may be outdated or incorrect.
  • In this case proceed to update the Video driver.

The screen resolution and bit color is controlled by the video driver NOT by a driver for the monitor.
Install the correct video driver for your video card and you will be able to increase the screen resolution to over 1024 X 768 and bit color to at least 32 bits.

Compaq fs740 text too faint and fuzzy to read well

Firstly you need to switch to the monitor's optimal resolution of 1024x768 @ 85Hz and before anyone posts anything about resolution 1024x768 @ 85Hz is the optimum not the maximum. To change to this resolution: Assuming you are using Windows XP click with the right mouse button an an empty part of the desktop and select Properties (or click Start, then click Control Panel then click Display), on the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider bar until it says 1024x768 and then click Apply. Also in Display settings you'll find an advanced button, in the advanced panel you'll see the option to adjust the refresh rate, try adjusting this to 85Hz. Now press the Menu Button on the front of the monitor and press + of - until you see an option called "Degauss" and press the select button on the front of the monitor, your screen will do a disturbing jump and flicker accompanied by a metallic thud, this is normal. If this doesn't help message back.

Need new vid card

The Compaq s3200nx comes with integrated video; Via KM266 graphics. It has:
Available slotsTwo PCI
AGP4x 1.5v
AGP is for Video but nothing else and it must be 4v. PCI is for all types of cards including Video.

You can get a PCI Video card with more memory on it than your current video.
You must verify your monitor connection. Is it VGA? or DVI? Make sure the card has the right type of connection.

The application is trying to control the video-card, setting a resolution, e.g., 800-by-60, and a refresh rate, e.g., 72 Mhz, that your monitor does not support. So, your monitor displays "out of frequency".

Click with the second (usually the right) mouse-button on the icon, and choose "Properties", and force the video-resolution to a supported value.

Stripped screen after boot up from XP SP2 Home edition

are the stripes repeating in a pattern across the screen? if so you probrably have a video ram bus problem or a video ram problem, either way its probrably an issue with your graphics card, thats the worst case scenario. if your feeling lucky just give your monitor cable a wiggle and see if anything changes

In my experience, monitors do not need drivers. Video cards do. Make sure your video card drivers for your computer are up to date. The card is what makes the picture on the monitor.

The monitor is in power save mode and won't get out of it

It sounds like your video card has failed, if you are using an aftermarket video card, try removing it from the system and plugging it into the onboard OEM video card.

If you are using onboard and there is only 1 video plug then most likley you system board has failed.
