The screen turned off - a bit of a static and the picture dissolved into a vertical white line in the middle of the screen and then blank. The sound continued. The remote did not allow me to turn the tv...


Try plugging it in and turning it on.
If it is the same, we call that busted.
Buy a new projector.
If it was totally black, it might be a burned out bulb. A white line means it is busted.

Picture flashes off but still have sound


You may want to change the lamp. It may be on the edge of failing totally.

Convergence ICs are STK392-110 you will need two of them they are available at the link I am posting and they give free instalation instructions with pics and free tech support so you can do the repair yourself.Heres the link.

You might have a bad PIP board, When you say NO picture. Is it totally blacked out or blacked out with "blue snow". The PIP has been alot of problems in this chassis and you will experience what your describing. Capacitors are the root of the PIP boards failure. Let me know if I can assist you further.
