Question about Computers & Internet

Display on power up, the screen shows colors and blobs of black in warious spots, never changing. External monitor shows screen fine and is usable. My screen has an area that looks like a Rohrschak (sp?) test --big black blob at the top, dribbling down to something like an abstract painting.  It's a Toshiba Tecra M9-S5516X, purchased in late April from Toshiba. The first (Toshiba) laptop (from PC Universe, via Amazon.com) was practically DOA. When I connect to an auxiliary screen there's no problem with the view.

I was told that the screen needs to be replaced, because the LCD is cracked. I think the laptop got squeezed against other items in the trunk of the car on a long trip. robsv1.  Additionally, the touch pad for the cursor no longer works, but this happened more than a week after the screen problem showed up.

The notebook screen would seem to be fautly, purchased this april? You still have warranty on the laptop I would suggest to contact the seller for warranty repairs.

seems the motherboard and video are working as the external screen works OK.

The LCD panel is physically broken and can not be fixed. It can only be replaced. Somehow it got cracked. Sorry for the bad news...

I was just using my mom's acer aspire when suddenly a blue screen appeared that stated it was preparing for a crash dump. The computer will turn on and sound like it's starting up, but then it stops and...

from what yu say if i infer correctly then

when powered on the system powers up properly and the HDD and CPU are running fine but there is no display on the screen and is black,

first try the this step, try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port (generally in blue color) and see if you have a Display on the external monitor.

the black screen generally means that either the Display section is not getting power or the invertor board is damaged and this needs professional help in fixing / replacing it.

hope could be of help

Yea i have a gateway 450sx4 laptop and when i turn it on it stays black for a while and when the screen finally turns on it blurry and its different colors and it just shows lines how can i fix this?

It's likely that your screen is "fried" (faulty) ... try to connect your laptop to an external VGA monitor, and see if the screen shows up (on the external monitor) properly. You may have to toggle the output display (device) from computer screen to external monitor ..using Fn+F3.
If it displays on your external monitor properly, it means your laptop screen is no good. You can replace the laptop screen, or just continue to use the external monitor.
If it does the same (blurry & different color, etc.) on your external monitor, then, your video card/module on your laptop is bad. This usually happens less often.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1525. When I power on the unit, the LCD shows the Dell startup screen, then a whinning noise and the screen goes black. Sometime shortly there after the Windows screen appears but...

This sounds more like a hardware issue. Now you say that the external display output is working fine. It could possibly be a problem with the lcd display itself shorting out. If there was a problem with the video hardware then I do not think you would be able to get the external display working either. The whinning noise could be coming from the lcd inverter.

Display problem with colors

Check the display on the external monitor. if the display if fine, you lcd needs to be replaced. if the display is the same, your computer mother board has gone bad.
here is what you can also try before calling Dell.

Turn off your computer.
now, press and hold the Fn button at the bottom left hand corner. and then turn on the computer. kepp holding the Fn key down untill you see Pre boot self assesment. it will check all the hardware problems in the computer. After 2 minutes it will show you a rainbow. if the colors are fine press Y else press N. it will give you an error code. call dell and give the error code and get the LCD repalced.

FS050UA , COMPAQ PRESARIO NOTEBOOK PC CQ50-210US the screen has lines and a black spot

Hi,
Turn on the notebook and press F10 to get into BIOS screen. Even if the lines and the black spot appears then the issue is with the internal hardware of the notebook.
To check further connect an external monitor to the notebook and press Fn and F4 keys on the keyboard to get the display on external monitor. If the external monitor display is fine then the issue is with the LCD screen or else the issue is with the Video card of the notebook.

Hp dv9000 switches on to show coloured lines on screen.

Hello

My first guess is that the screen circuitry has gone bad - although fixable. Use an external monitor to verify this. If the external monitor is fine then the screen circuitry is bad, if the external screen shows the same problem then the video chip or associated circuitry has gone bad. My company fixes these all the time.

Data Shows up only on External Monitor, not on Laptop Screen

If your system won't display anything w/o the external monitor. there's something wrong with the LCD's backlight. you may have to contact your laptop's manufacturer and check if this laptop is still under warranty. you may have to get the lcd replaced.

thanks.
