Using Keyboard for Mbox 1

You have to select the port in Pro Tools, but the computer has to recognise the MIDI port first.Does P.T. see that you have a MIDI port installed? Did you select an instrument plug in and map the keyboard as the controller for the plug in? You may need to use a utility like MIDI Yoke or MIDIOX to map the port if you are using Windows. You also have to have the drivers installed so that Windows recognises it as a MIDI port. If it is on a Mac you may have to use the Audio/Midi setup up utility to add the midi port.

Best of luck, Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks for the info Andy. I actually got it working for about 20 minutes yesterday by removing and replacing the wires, but then it clicked back off. I'll have my boss contact the manufacturer and...

There is a widespread problem of a defect with the digi 002/002r that results in the units no longer powering on or losing power in the middle of a session and not being able to power back on. Users have to open up their units and reseat the wires from the power harness to the connectors and sometimes this fixes the problem of suddenly losing power; the problem has run rampant though and repeats even after reseating the connectors to the pins.

Digidesign states that it is a power harness issue and sends out a replacement part that the user has to install to avoid any downtime by sending the unit to be repaired by digidesign. The policy is that if you do the repair yourself you must sign a faxed/emailed disclosure that clears digidesign of any liability by you opening the unit up to install the replacement part they send you. The new replacement power harness is called MOLEX.
In some cases users have had three and four replacement power harnesses sent to them (molex brand) and the issue remains unresolved. Digidesign has gone on record by saying that all units with the serial number ending in G have the new molex connector and havent had any reported problems since installing the molex connector power harness; but this has not fixed the growing problem that concerns many digi 002 and 002r owners because the Molex power harness has not fixed their issue and digidesign has gone on record by saying that there is another problem that mimics this issue that relates to the power harness. So now there are two known defects, the other hasn't gone on record.
If you bring this subject up in the digidesign users forum they will edit the posts/delete and/or ban you from the forum if you are not ok with their proposed solution.
If there is anything that I have learned in the industry is that Sweetwater is very knowledgable and provides incredible customer support and perhaps you can help shed some light on this issue as well as a proper fix where the end user isn't faced with the decisionof having to do the repair themself.

One user diagnosed this problem and stated that "The actual problem with the digi 002/002r is that this sort of defect is normally caused by using dis-similar metals (gold plated connectors on Tin Lead connectors in this case) on connectors in power circuits. From my limited observations I see that the power supply harness cable has gold-plated female connectors and the circuit boards have Tin-lead connector pins. I have seen this particular configuration cause this exact problem in several electronic designs in the past. The only solution is to change the connector metals so that thaey are not dis-similar. Using Gold-Plated on both sides of the connection would do it. Or many other combos of compatible metals are OK. But not Tin-Lead with Gold Palted in a power circuit. That is just plain asking for trouble from my experience. You can look up dis-similar metals in electronic connections on the internet for more info on this and how it causes corrossion. It is also an issue in welding metals together in the metal fabrication industry.

The end user has a right to purchase products free and clear of defects; especially if this is a widespread problem that gave them enough time to fix this with newly manufactured units.
Those that purchased the defective digi 002/002r should be sent new replacement units or be able to arrange for loaner units while they send it out for repair by a digi technichian or someone authorized to do such repairs. Anything dealing with electronics or electronic components pose some danger with safety and risk of voiding warranty.

Digi 002 Red Light Only fix?

Hey Chadfish,

I had to call Digidesign. They are aware of this very common problem with 002s and will send you a new power harness free of charge. They were really cool about and did not give me the runaround. I got the new harness in about 5 days. Make sure you have your 002 registered before you call.

Hey -

Unplugging the harness and reconnecting only worked for a couple days. It turned out that I had to call digidesign and they sent me a new power harness for free. That fixed it for me.

Installing Pro tools LE 6.7 on G5

If this was already solved, well, this will help someone else. My guess is your new G5 came with 10.4 or 10.5 and you possibly tried to install LE 6.7 or earlier. This will not work on these OSs. If you have 6.7 you can upgrade to LE 6.9.1 for free and this will solve you problem. If you have LE 6.4 you are screwed and will have fork over $75 to Digidesign to upgrade to 6.9.1...or upgrade to 7.4, which is actually kind of worth it.

Digi 002 rack

easy. Your clock got screwed by one of your audio programs in you system. It Happens when sample rates are mixes up. Leave your digi 002 on it does not set itself other than the factory sample rate setting when primarily switched on, which will remember its last setting if mixed up in an attempt to recover. Leave it on turn your system on. Then turn your system off. Not the digi. just your pc, mac. The software utilizing the previously screwed up sample rate will or should be reset. thus resetting your digi 2 to its factory 44. If it does not work check your software settings for any audio software set as default to run when pc is started ans make sure they are set to play back 44. Never turn your pc off when a program using your digi faulters.

Unable to locate the unit on my G5

It's the power supply / DC Harness issue. A well known fault with the Digi 002.

Two things you can do:

Call Digidesign. They'll overnight you a new power supply and DC wiring harness free of charge, as well as installation instructions. They might also still be willing to do the repair for you (also free of charge), but that means you'll have to ship the unit to them, which will take considerably longer than the DIY approach.

Or, if you're REALLY stuck and you need to get back up and running RIGHT NOW (okay, within 30 minutes or so), you can disassemble the 002, pull the DC harness and clean the contacts with some Caig DeOxit, then apply a bit of ProGold, then put it back together... chances are that will clear up your problems and allow you to finish the session. :)

There are some good instructions on how to open up the 002 and what to treat over on the Digidesign User's Conference (http://duc.digidesign.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=UBB32&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7) , but I can't locate them at the moment. But if you ask over there, I'm sure someone can refer you to the correct post. :)

I got one of the very first 002's in N America three years ago... and it worked fine for the first couple of months, then had the wiring harness issue... and Digidesign replaced it (via overnight delivery) and paid for the return of the defective unit. About a week ago, it went out again, This time, I got the replacement parts (including a small amount of the Caig chemicals :thu: - although I already had those on hand) overnighted to me. The install isn't all that difficult, but the placement of some of the locking tabs on the connectors is a bit difficult to deal with. Just go slow and don't force anything... a small screwdriver will help in "unlocking" some of those tabs. :)
