Question about GPX KCL8806DT 7 in. Portable Television

No sound gpx klc8806dt

The unit was out of use for 6months and was working 100% when it was stored in clean dry area. Now it powers up, tv functions, radio tuner works, remote works, all funtions except sound. When changing modes, or powering up, I can hear a faint hum thru the speakers. The remote switchs from mute to sound, and the speaker symbol is displayed on display window. Any body got a clue??? Thank You!

Hello, i have fixed a few of these units, Mainly the problem is, is the crappy design inside, take out all of the screws from the bottom of the unit, be careful when pulling the top cover off cause the battery unit on the side is detachable and could be stuck and u can rip the wires off the system board. now you will see the 2 speakers, take a razor blade and carefully cut away the glue that holds the speakers in, and there may be little white plates with 2 screws that hold the speaker down also. Now take the speakers out and test them on a home entertainment center or a cd player that has red and black connectors for speakers in the back. See if they work first, if they do carefully reconnect the speakers to the motherboard and reseat the connectors back in with ease. try the unit again. if it doesnt work check the solder joints where the connectors attach to the motherboard, sometimes they will come loose. From my expierence with these units is they tend to jam the speakers inside so tight that they eventually stop working, so be sure to only use the connectors to hold them in.

What size Machine Screws do I need to mount a GPX Under Cabinet TV?

Um, "machine screws"? Unless you have a metal fitting inside the cabinet for those to screw to, you don't need machine screws.

Assuming you do have the metal fitting, then take that fitting to the hardware store to get the correct screws (and perhaps nuts). How long? Measure the thickness of the bottom of your cabinet, add the thickness of the bracket(s), and get the next size longer.

We dont have a manual and we dont know how to change the channel or set the time

To set the clock on the unit, have the TV connected to power but not on. Then press and hold Mem/Clck Adj on the TV (it's the third button from the right in the top row of controls). Use the adjacent Tune/Clk (up/down arrows) to set the clock for 12 or 24 hour time. Then press Mem/Clk Adj again to adjust the hour with the up/down arrows. Press Mem/Clk Adj again and set the minutes. Press Mem/Clk Adj to save the time. The original remote also has these buttons. Mem/Clk Adj is also labeled Set and is the furthest right button on the second to bottom row of the remote. The Tune/Clk buttons are the DN and UP buttons on the left of this row.

Use the Tune/Clk arrows to change the radio channels after pressing the radio button (second from the right on the bottom row). When you press the TV button (first on the right of the bottom row) to watch TV, then you need to use the Channel up/down arrows at the top and bottom of the ring control on the far right of the TV or the Channel + and Channel - buttons on the remote. On the remote, the Channel + button is below the timer button which is below 9 in the keypad section. Enter is below the Channel + button and Channel - is below Enter. Make sure that the TV is in the correct mode for your signal (ATSC for OTA and NTSC for analog cable) by pressing the TV mode button. If you are using a set top box, you will need to change the channels at the box.

Press the TV Menu button and then go down the list to Time to set the time zone for the TV. Press Enter to save the setting. Use the TV Scan button to get a list of available channels before trying to change channels.

The manual for the GPX KL868S is available from GPX at the product page: http://www.gpx.com/store/p/287-KL858S.aspx . The direct link to the English version of the manual is: http://www.gpx.com/owners_manuals/KL858S-IB.pdf .

I hope this helps.

On start up the TV produces a loud buzzing sound, the picture flashes then the screen goes black. What is the problem and is the unit worth fixing?

Major failure in the power source. If it's worth repairing only you know that - without actually seeing the tv i can  do just a very uncertain estimate of the price of the repair: around $150.

My gpx under the cabinet tv comes on, but after a few minutes the sound gets static in it, then I lose the picture, but the sound comes back perfect.

Double check the cabling, loose cable will case such issues, also try a different cable, if neither works, most likely you will need to exchange it.

No picture or sound on tv

This sounds like a power supply problem. Check for a blown fuse in the unit. If there is no blown fuse then the power supply might have a shorted or open component in it. Check for the blown fuse first if the fuse is not blown or it can not be fixed by changing the fuse then the next culprit is the power supply, you will have to have a qualified TV technician do this.

I hope this helps
