I have a Sony Vaio PCG-505FX. It's using Windows XP Professional. We just found it while clearing out some cupboards and it hasn't been used in ages. There are two accounts on the log-in screen, but we don't know the passwords for either account. Therefore, we cannot log in. I don't mind restoring it to factory settings, or doing a system restore, but we have no discs that came with it, as it was so long ago. I've tried pressing F8 before the windows loading screen but nothing comes up like people have said it should. Any help on how to get into the computer or restore it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Some how get a windows bootable dvd.insert it and and start booting from dvd on the while do a full system format too.install a fresh version of windows. goodluck

What happened to Windows 7 Support?
Downgrade to Windows XP until everything is ready to re install.
One of the joys of owning a Windows computer... Get used to it.
Can you upgrade to Windows 8?
Perhaps your Sony PC is just getting too Old.

This model Sony came installed with a 80Gb hard disk and a 40 Gb Do a clean Windows install on this old hard drive - Boot up with the Windows installation CD install Windows on the hard drive Delete the existing Windows partition Create a new partition Format the new partition (full format not Quick format) Continue installing Windows.
the problem most probable is the win xp os that you are using
Microsoft has stopped maintaining win xp quite some time ago and the operating system is failing when changes are made to the extras in use
Talk with a computer repair shop for advice
AFTER INSTALLING WIN XP YOU SHOULD INSTALL THE DISPLAY DRIVER. ONLY THEN YOU WILL GET A CLEAR SCREEN. AND IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE DRIVER THEN CHANGE THE RESOLUTION IN RIGHT CLICK->PROPERTIES.

Use your recovery disc . If you don't have one or if it fails , Xp is gone for ever .
If you are currently under Windows 7 Ultimate , or Pro , or Enterprise , you can download and install a virtual version of XP . You can get it from here : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx and it's free .
Congratulation for user of Sony VAIO VGN-FZ11M model: PCG-381M laptop because now they can install windows 7 professional 32bit and use webcam. Sony official website doesn't provide the drivers for windows 7 but if you install VISA drivers, it will work fine except webcam (as might be you knew). you need to get a copy of that operating system and insert it. But It might Happen that your Note Book has Crushd u Need to Reinstall your operating and Delete everything inside it and Start on a New Page of Your Notebook :)
