Question about Toshiba 42HP83 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

Snowy black picture

Hi,

My plasma screen has a snowy black screen and no sound. None of the controls seem to work other than the on/off switch. I've replaced the power supply so that good. I can get the sound to work if i remove the g-hyper board which also turns the screen green with a flicker. The sound/volume work and tv/video button will change the inputs with the g-hyper board removed. Should i replace the g-hyper board, the main signal board, or should i be looking at something else?

I have the service manual but it doesn't have any trouble shooting steps, so im flying blind a bit. Is there some way i could determine what part is bad?

I would think that the signal board would be more suspect than the hyper board for the symptoms you're describing. However I would recommend getting the service manual and doing some troubleshooting rather than just replacing circuit boards.

I will see if I can find some info on your model and I will repost as soon as I find out anything on which boards may cause the symptom.

the 1inch black line is either a buffer board gone bad or the ribbon cable from the plasma screen to the buffer board, the snowy picture could be many things, including y-sus, xsus or tuner boards

First of all, I'm not an expert but you might wanna change your cables. Bad and cheap cables are usually the reason for bad and snowy picture. Good luck!
