Nintendo DS Will Not Charge

My Nintendto DS Lite will not turn on (with battery or plug) and will not charge. I was told the battery was totally dead so I bought a new battery and installed it today.  I still have the same problem. The yellow light stays on for 20 minutes or so while it is plugged in but the green light never appears. The screens will not turn on at all.
What can I do?

I have a US lite and use it in the UK. I had the same problem until I remembered it will only charge with a Nintendo charger that I purchased in the UK.

I found that if you live over seas, which I do (Egypt), you cannot charge the DS Lite with an adapter. What my husband did was take my orginal DS Lite power charger cord, cut it, then splice it to a mobile phone charger of a close voltage from Egypt. It works great!!!! I also have the gameboy advance which had the same problem, and I used the same solution. This post is for those who live or work over seas.

Try if the battery is charged right, when batter is fully charged disconnect from AC adapter. Hold the power button for 5 seconds. If it does not work that means that you need a replacement battery for the Nintendo DS. When you receive the replacement batter, follow the steps again.

It is worth checking FUSE 1 inside the DS when it will not charge, i have just bridged the FUSE 1 to get my sons to charge, and it charges fine now. Fuses are available on ebay etc, but a lot of forums just say to bridge it !!!!!!!!! Hope this helps.

I had the same problem. I'm an Airman in Iraq right now, and I was trying to charge it using a power adaptor because the outlets are not American. After trial and error, I discovered that a DS won't charge on a power adaptor. Luckily, I found ONE outlet on my base that I can use to charge it. Hope this helps!

Hi my nintendo ds lite battery is dead and my charger is lost is there any other way to charge it without a charger?

You can try charging your DS lite using a phone charger. In order for this to work the charger must
  • Output around 5.2 volts
  • The end of the plug must look like the second plug from the left in this picture
When plugging this cord into your DS lite do NOT force it in. If you push to hard it may break the DS lite.

Both of my dS'S start to charge but then go off

It's either a dead battery (rechargeable batteries have a limited charge cycle. After a few years they stop accepting a charge) or the DS is bad. The following site sells DS Lite batteries for a decent price. If you want to be 100% sure, find someone with a DS Lite and try their battery in your unit -- or your battery in their unit:

My ds lite won't charge.. the orange light appeared blinked

We had this problem with a brand new DS Lite...turns out it was a bad charger. If you have access to another charger, try that first. Good luck!

It wont turn no matter how long i charge it

does the orange light flash of a few seconds after you plug it in? If it does, I think that it is a battery problem. After a lot of charges, the battery's capacity decreases. If the orange light just flashes, I would try a new battery http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=191&cat=Nintendo+DS+Lite+Batteries for ds lite battery or http://www.nintendorepairshop.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=188&cat=Nintendo+DS+Batteries for a ds battery (both $8)

NINTENDO DS LITE WON'T CHARGE OR POWER ON

Each time you charge your battery, the charge capacity is decreased. After a large amount of charges, the capacity is decreased to an amount only enough to turn on a/the screen(s) for a second. Try getting a new battery.

Nintendo DS Lite - does not charge

i would suggest trying to find what the issue is, if you know anyone who has a different charger, try it on your daughter's ds. if it still doesn't work, it's a DS problem...if it's under warranty, go to whatever store you bought it at and have them fix or replace it. If you try the different charger and it DOES work, then the only problem is the charger...so then all you have to do is go buy a new charger...hope this helps.
