Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Panasonic rear projection

52" tv has large black square that comes on in the middle of the screen if I exit the menu wheel. To remove it, I must press the action button and then the menu wheel comes back on. Also, the closed captioning that I have never used is wavy and colors are smeared across the little bit of picture I can see. Is there any hope for this tv or should I take it to the dump?

I have a similar problem. I just changed the Convergence ICs and now I get a big black square in the middle of the screen the size of the menu. The image is still behind the solid black square because if I make any changes to the OSD (change the volume, change the channel, activate PIP, etc.) the proper image appears on the screen for a split second but then reverts back to the black square. My tv is the Panasonic PT-53TW53.
    Thanks.

You should turn the close caption off in the menu this will get ride of that box. If you are seeing double image on the screen that is a different problem though. Let me know what the pic looks like after you turn clsoe caption off.

I have a vs-60609 60"

Sounds like a Picture in Picture screen popping up, but if you do not have a signal from another tuner, it will be blank.

Try hitting the PIP button on your remote to see if it turns it off and on.
Plus go into the tv menu and find the PIP settings.

There is a large black area in the upper left hand corner of the screen

If it is a square box, it is usually a text box. It can be fixed by turning closed captioning off. Either hit the CC button on the remote until off appears. Or go in to the menu find closed captioning or text and turn off. If it is not a defined box, it could be something inside the tv.

HAVE 56 INCH PANASONIC REAR PROJECTION--LARGE BLACK SQUARE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN

Hello MCNJC,
Get your remote and go to the close caption in the menu or the CC button on the remote. Set the close caption to off, or set it to CC1 to see close caption. NEVER set it to TEXT 1 or any TEXT at all.

Black square

Black square in the middle could be closed captioning. Light engine is approx. $700 to $1000 for the parts alone. Time consuming job to change - 2 hours - so expect a hefty labor charge as well.

Repair of a Mitsubishi TS-4553 46" rear projection television

I checked out past posts on your forum and found the answer there. The TV is working great. I did have a bit of trouble finding the cc in the menu, but finally found it and the problem was solved by turning the cc off. Now I just have to make sure that they don't turn it back on!

Thank you!!!!!
