I want to get my N64 set up after a couple of years not being used, i plugged the plug into the wall and then into the back of the console, the red light comes on so i know it now has power, i have a small black box which connect's into the N64 next to the place where i just put the power block into, it has a RF Out on it and the end of that line is a Ariel slot, so i plugged that into my TV's ariel slot but i cannot find the right channel to show my Nintendo onto the tv? am i doing something wrong? or missing something out please help Thank's

It could be that the connection is not occurring simultaneously and the ac adapter for your N64 console is being more exposed then too. Try using extension cords that have little red rectangle button that you can turn the power off for your N64 console instead of taking it in and out and turning off and on and having to plug it back into the outlet again. It could also mean that the power supply inside of your console could be going bad and needs to be replaced the little square inside of your N 64 in the top left corner of the console where the ac adapter plugs into and it should be replaced or fixed.
Well if the red light is flickering then it might be a bad ac adapter so you could buy a new ac adapter to see if it works then. Or bad capacitor inside of the console oe or the other. It might be time to buy a new N64 console.
You need two cables. One has a very large, thick end that fits into the back of the N64. That is the power cord, you just plug that one into the wall. The other cord is a little trickier. It has a smaller end that plugs into the back of the N64 to the side of the power plug. On the other end of that cord, you have composite cables. (The red, white, and yellow plugs). Just find the matching color plugs on the back of your TV, set it to the correct input, and you're all set! I hope this helps!
I had an issue like this with my 14 year old N64 console so I tried a new expansion pack in it and it worked again after that then. It could just be that.
The N64 is pretty forgiving... try this. Plug the AC adapter in and the system leave in and turn OFF for 1 hour.. if the AC Adapter doesn't get warm then u name have a bad AC adapter... replace it and hope for the best!!
Had the same problems.. the n64 just turned off after playing dr. mario for a few minutes... anyways, heres what worked for me
1. make sure your wall outlet works *sounds dumb, but better safe then sorry, plug in a light or something to make sure it works*
2. unplug EVERYTHING, controllers, vid cord, power etc
3. let everything be disconnected for about a minute or so, the AC adapter sometimes overheats and turns it self off which might be the problem.
4. ONLY plug in the AC adapter to the n64, make sure its firmly plugged in. turn it on.. it should light up now, if so, plug everything back in. enjoy :)
If your TV does not have the red, yellow and white RCA jacks on the back for AV hook ups you will have to get an RF switch for the N64. You can find them all over online and you should be able to buy one in a place like Radio Shack.
It sounds like it's most likely a problem with the AV cord you're using to connect to the TV or the ports on the TV where you plug it in. If you can, borrow a friend's AV cable and see if it works, if not then it's either a technical problem elsewhere or it is not hooked up correctly... Also make sure the TV is set to the correct input (Video 1, Video 2, channel 3, etc.)
