Is this the high efficiency washer? I had one and had to replace the splutch. Yes I spelled that correctly. It was making a terrible noise...and eventually the nut came undone.

Drum not spinning

Hi I'm Peter, Usually most problems as such have to do with the washer control switch that you use to adjust heavy, permanent press , or delicate cycle.. you will need to unplug the unit the dial should pull straight off with a little effort You will need to remove the screws in the back panel to access the wiring. You will at this time most likely take the top off above the switch. Most washers are made only by a couple of companies, Roper being one that makes a good portion for the name brand ones so all they do is put their name on it. Regardless go to the local appliance parts ware house ask around or check the yellow pages take your make, model, year if you have it and serial number and explain to them your problem and tell them you think it is the washer control switch and see if they have had to sell many. Odds are this is going to be your problem. Every washer I have ever owned and I keep them a pretty good while until my wife wants a new one I have had to eventually replace the controller. Good luck.

My washer will not drain or spin. We just had a spell of cold weather. Is something frozen that I can just wait out?

Do you keep your washer outside? :) Seriously, It's unlikely what goes on outside has anything to do with your washer, provided it's inside. Probably just a coincidence. If you're lucky, it's probably that your lid switch broke; this can happen anytime. It's a very common problem with these washers. The washer won't spin if it thinks the lid is open. This switch is located in the rear right hand corner of the washer opening. It is an oval hole with two small phillips head screws adjacent to it. You might take a pen or pencil and push down on the switch in the opening. If you don't hear or feel a distinct click, the switch is probably bad, but it could still be bad even if you hear a click. If you unscrew the two phillips head screws, you might be able to work the switch out to where you can check it out more closely. If you can determine this is indeed your problem,

If it's not, then it might be your pump. This is a little more involved. The drain pump is the gray device attached to the motor shaft on the outside of the motor. It is attached to the motor with two flat clips. If you use a flat bladed screwdriver they are easy to remove. Pull it off of the shaft that turns it and see if the center piece facing the motor turns easily. If it does the pump is not clogged. If it is clogged then remove the two hoses attached to it as well. You can loosen the clamps from the hoses and move them away from the pump using a pair of pliers. Then you can check to see if the pump or hoses are clogged.
Good luck!
