Question about Bernina Artista 180

2 Answers

Sftware I have a Bernina artista 180 with the original software. I recently got a new laptop with Vista and it will not support this version 3 software for Microsoft windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP. I also want to upgrade to a newer version so that it can support Monogram Wizard embroidery software, but I can't believe the cost Benina is wanting for this upgrade. Any suggestions on where to find this at a less expensive price and how to install my existing software onto my laptop. Thanks, Sharon

Hi, Unfortunately any of Bernina's software that is older than Version 5 , will not work with Vista. There are some software patches available on the berninausa.com web site, but there is nothing out there that will help you if you have any Version 4 software or older. Microsoft really through out a curve ball to everyone with VISTA as there is a lot of software out there that will not work in that operating system.
Actually the lowest cost solution would be to get a nice used computer that runs Windows XP. You do not need a super fast, state of the art computer to run embroidery programs.
I bought a nice used computer at a yard sale for $10.00 and it even came with the XP install disk. I replaced the hard drive just because they do wear out after a few years, installed XP in it and that computer is now in my wife's sewing room and it is only used for her embroidery work.
You might have a computer repair shop in your area where you can buy an older XP computer that has been reconditioned. The few dollars you would spend to get an older computer would cost you far less than buying new Bernina Version 5 software. It is EXPENSIVE! Good luck...bushvideo

Another solution might be to run windows xp with a virtual machine like vmware, I am running artlink 3.1 on my mac with paralells, (vmware worked too).

Lost dongle bernina 180 artista version 3

Unfortunately, your dongle is like a Key that is made just for your machine. You could try contacting Bernina or the place where you bought the machine originally and ask if they can send you a replacement. I've afraid it will be very expensive though.

Good luck.

Bernina 180 with Firmware 2.08 - can it run DesignerPlus 5 or 6?

You will need to update the software in the machine, to a min of version 3.08 this can be done at BERNINA dealer (usually free of charge) once this is complete you designer will fully be compatible. WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR MACHINE IN TO BE UPDATE DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE THE EMBROIDERY UNIT IN AS WELL AS IT CONTAINS ITS OWN SOFTWARE

I can't install Bernina Version 4 on my VISTA Operating system PC

As far as I know, Bernina version doesn't work on Windows Vista, you have to upgrade to the next Bernina Designer version which is Vista compatible.

I need to convert my parellel port dongle to USB

I have the same problem...V3 software. have not heard of an adapter. The software wouldn't work with Windows XP or Vista anyway. I upgraded to Editor plus V5 but have kept my old Designer plus on an ancient laptop so I can transfer old patterns. You will also find that your new laptop doesn't have a serial port to accomodate the old cable to bernina 180. Unfortunately it's always the case with updating a PC. Everything else has to follow! My advice, get hold of an old laptop:)

Connection problem with computer to sewing machine and reader/writer

Hello,
It is not true that the 180 is not compatible with new software.
I'm owning a artista 180 from 2002 and just installed the software designer V5+ on a laptop with windows vista.
The only problem was that there was no serial port on the laptop, now I have a new cable with USB ans serial output and the software works very well !!
When you contact Bernina you will get the same answer.

Dongle

Hello. No, the only way you are going to get this to work is to replace the software with new ones, as all software come with different dongle numbers. The dongle numbers are specifically for the software that you have, you can't even change dongles. Can you get in touch with the seller to give you the dongle? I have a set of Cracked software for the BERNINA ARTISTA 180 that I can copy for you for $200, which you don't need a dongle for. Email me on: lfr6@bigpond.com I have a BERNINA ARTISTA 180 as well and this is the software I run. RRP for the VERSION 3 and the CPS software is $4500.00. Thanks. Lawrence

Bernina has a new version of Artlink available from your local dealer. It is not free, older versions do not work with Vista, sorry for the bad news.
