NO Clean Dishes

I have a Kenmore elite dishwasher I purchased last December 2007. This is the worst dishwasher out of the five diswashers I have owned. It does not clean dishes. Its getting worse, glasses are becoming filmy, food lays in bottom of dishwasher. Food stuck on dishes. I have done the recommened things in the troubleshooting, by having my husband turn up the water pressure, turn up the water heat and nothing works.

Dear sir this may be the problem  Dishwashers usually run on 115-volt or 120-volt power. The water they use comes directly from the water heater, and wastewater is drained into the sink's drainpipe. The dishwasher is not connected to the cold-water supply. For best dishwashing results, set the temperature control of the water heater to no less than 140 degrees Farenheit. Water cooler than this usually doesn't get the dishes clean, unless your dishwasher is a newer model that preheats incoming water. The water shutoff for the dishwasher is typically located below the adjoining sink.
Caution: Because the dishwasher is connected to both the plumbing system and the electrical system, you must consider both systems when working on this appliance. Before doing any work on the dishwasher, make sure the unit is unplugged or the power to the unit is turned off, and remove the fuse or trip the circuit breaker that controls the circuit at the main entrance panel or at a separate panel. Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher at the shutoff in the basement or crawl space under the kitchen.NO Clean Dishes - how-to-repair-a-dishwasher-1.jpg

The Kenmore Elite has three washing arms. One on the bottom sprays water up. The middle arm sprays water up and down and the one on top sprays water down.

Clean Front" feature means that the controls (touchpad type) are on top of the door, rather than on the front. I'll admit this $100 extra was a bit of vanity, but it does make the dishwasher look more modern and makes the front easier to keep clean.

    It depends.
If you use the dishwasher at least twice a week, you don't need to
clean the inside. Otherwise, if it begins to get moldy inside--or if
the residual water at the bottom of the dishwasher smells bad--put
detergent in the soap dish and run the dishwasher empty, through a
    complete cycle.

dishwashers handle the normal food residue left on dishes after eating,
if you first scrape the dishes to remove any larger bits of food. But
if anything is burned, melted, or stuck to the dishes, rinse and scrape
them well, before you put them into the dishwasher. Leaving some
residue is actually best, because the protein in the food reacts with
    the soap for more-effective cleaning.

    It may be a
model that pre-heats the water. If so, and if the water entering the
dishwasher is cool, the heater may take up to half an hour to heat the

To avoid the wait, increase the incoming water
temperature before turning on the dishwasher. Do that by running the
kitchen sink faucet until the water runs hot. Or increase the
temperature of the hot water to the entire house at the hot water

Warning! To lessen the risk of scalding, don't set the hot water heater temperature higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

when you get back home, just try to inspect or check one of the ff:

Internal filtersEvery dishwasher has some type of filter to keep large food particles and foreign objects away from the pump assembly:

    • Most modern dishwashers have self-cleaning filters that don't need any routine cleaning.

    • Some
have filters in the bottom of the dishwasher that you need to
periodically clean. You don't need any tools to remove the filter, and
cleaning it is easy. Consult your owner's manual to determine which
type you have and its maintenance requirements.
If your filter is clogged, it may be causing the cleaning problem.

    Drain valve

Some dishwashers have a valve (or gate) that should open only during draining. If debris lodges in the valve, it can't close properly, so water drains out during the wash cycle. Most dishwashers drain into the garbage disposer. If yours does that, listen for water flowing into the disposer during the wash cycle. If you can hear it then, the drain valve may be clogged.

    Spray arms

There's a spray arm at the bottom of your dishwasher--it may have a tall spray tube mounted to the center of it. There may also be a spray arm located directly beneath the upper rack of dishes and/or above the upper rack.

If debris is blocking the holes in the spray arms where the water comes out, it could cause cleaning problems. Regularly inspect each of the spray arms and clean out the holes as necessary.

    Detergent cups
don't perform their best if detergent is introduced only at the
beginning of a cycle, so add detergent to both parts of the cup.

If the detergent cup isn't opening, see the "The detergent cup doesn't open" section, below.

Note: Dishwashers are usually wired directly to the home’s electrical system. To disconnect the power, switch off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse for the electrical circuit the dishwasher is attached to. Try to turn the unit on after disconnecting the power to be sure you were successful.

CAUTION: If you’re not sure you’ve shut off the power properly, DO NOT CONTINUE. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to complete the repair.

Hope this initial info, will help you on solving the problem.

My Kenmore Elite dishwasher did not drain the water out of the bottom after the dishes were washed last night. Could I possibly have pushed a wrong button to keep it from draining, or do I have a problem?...

Yes , If the program controller has hung it would have skipped the drain cycle. So try to redo the cycle and see if the drain works, is not check the program controller and the drain valve/pump.- if there is food particles that have clogged and blocked.

Dishwasher is not washing dishes.

Make sure your water is at least 120 degrees and change to a dishwasher detergent with a water softener and a rinse aid in it.

Kenmore Elite Dishwasher Problem

I had this same problem so I took the front panel off to access the thermal fuse.  What I found instead was that food had become lodged in the door latch which was keeping the door safety switch from operating properly.  I took a thin screwdriver and removed the food from the cavity.  Since you did not have the problem in your first five years the cavity just might be the problem since that is about the amount of time it took me to get too much food stuck in mine as well. This solution took five seconds and requires no disassembly.

Smells bad

I have a very bad smell in my elite kenmore diswasher. We have had it for a year now. I have been smelling this now for several weeks and I didn't know where the smell was coming from until this morning when I pulled the door down to unload my dishes.
