I have all the volume turned up on my computer but it comes out very low barely able to hear it. how can i check if something was erased and then possibly restored oh by the way i went to a restore point b 4 this happened and didnt fix problem. thanks Tim

In wiindows go to the control panel and open the sounds and audio icon. Don't change too much just one at a time to see what the problem might be. Correct audio speakers, audio levels not muted?

Everything is the same? Is the audio jack plugged into the external speakers all the way? Are the external speakers okay?

Hi Sir's / Mam,

In order to resolve your issue you would need to do the following steps:-

1.Update latest BIOS and sound drivers.
link for BIOS update :-

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400%2FE1505&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=

click on this URL and before any steps are done please save your work and also check in BIOS battery charge should be more than 10% in BIOS and Ac Adapter should be connected and make sure that there should be no power failure during this process.

Update the Sound drivers:-

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&osl=EN&catid=3&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400%2FE1505&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=

After the BIOS update try to update the sound driver on the link mentioned above.Even after both the updates don't give results call Dell Tech Support and based on the HW warranty get the motherboard replaced.

Also try and connect to external speaker and see if the issue is same or different??

On my toshiba n305 notebook speaker sound is barely audible even at highest volume level. it is fine with earphones. tried everything. is it designed that way or something can be done? thanks

If you're on Vista/Windows 7, follow these instructions to enable Loudness Equalization. This significantly boosted the volume of my laptop speakers.
Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound
Double click on your default sound device (it will have a green check on its icon). Go to the Enhancements tab. Check Loudness Equalization, and hit apply. That should boost up any super-quiet noises.

My laptop is playing sound at a very low level. All the volume controls are turned up to the max, but I can barely hear anything through the built-in speakers or through earbuds. Toshiba Satellite A101...

Usually what happens hear is that a program such as media player or a dvd player will have its volume turned down and that overides the overall volume.

The trick is finding it. You need to open up any and all programs you have used with some kind of volume control and check they are turned up then close them.

You will never get super loud sound on your speakers but they should be easily heard. I've run across this on both my tosh laptop and a desktop.

My speaker volume on my laptop sucks, all the settings are set to the loudest possible setting and I can barely hear the speakers. Once in a while certain things will play loud but most everything else is...

Welcome to the world of laptops, where most functions are a tradeoff.

The speakers are only designed to do so much. If the source audio is louder to start with, then the speakers have more of a signal to work with.

Check the driver of your sound card. There may be a PreAmp (or perhaps equalizer) that you can set to add a preboost to the audio before it hits the final amplifier and then to the speakers.

Earphone plug is not working

do your speakers have their own volume knob? sounds like its turned way down, master volume in control panel under audio devices, also volume controll in the sound card software ,nvidia, realtek, maestro, ect. whitch ever one you have,if they are all turned up ,try turning it up useing your hotkeys on your keyboard,if none of that works, uninstall all of your audio drivers, and reinstall them from the support web site at hp.com,the wires that go to that headphone jack inside are very small, doesnt take much to damage them, droping it a couple times is enough, reinstalling the software is the best chance,if that doesnt do anything ,you will have to go inside,if this only happens when your using the optical drive then disregard everything i just said, and replace it.make sure its locked in securely

Can barely hear anything of any audio but device manager says audio device working

Right click your volume icon in notification area and adjust volume settings in there. Try headphones and see if its still the same, in case its your actual speakers going bad.

Cannot hear sounds through headphones

if you are able to hear normally from the speakers and not from the headphones possible reasons could be:
the audio is muted or very low
there is a mute switch on the headphone that is turned on
the headphone is not firmly plugged in or is in the wrong site eg microphone
hope it helps
please inform if it helps..

Cant turn up volume my compaq presario laptop

Ok it could be a few things, I am assuming that you are using XP and its a laptop, so lets try these:
  1. Can you turn up the volume by using Control Panel -- Sounds and Audio Devices --- Device Volume slider?
  2. On some Compaqs, the controls for audio are activated by holding down the FUNCTION key (usually blue letters on key on the left side of keyboard) and then pressing the audio up or audio down key. These keys are usally towards the top of the keyboard. These keys can do multiple things depending if the blue function key is press down first. They can control things like switching between internal and external displays, turning up/down the brightness on your laptop display and controling your audio levels too.
  3. Do you hear any sounds at all, if not, does Device Manager list your sound device?
  4. If this is a desktop PC, number 2 does not apply.
ok try those and let me know, Thx! =)
