    the camera records, but won't show any picture on playback and sound is also useless. There is also constant power failure even when plugged in; I tried several ways to power it and it shuts down. It WILL show video on FF, but not at all in play. I've hardly used this at all (less than 50 hours), and I stumped!

Firstly there is no media in this camera other than a video tape. Where Sony came up with the idea there is anything else is strange. I actually own one of these babies and at $35,000 AUD I wouldn't be doing anything but taking to Sony or a recognized Sony repair center to repair it. One thing that can cause lack of playback and record is an RF warning which simply means "dirty heads" Usually a run with a a Sony lapping tape is sufficient to solve the problem. That grinding noise could either be the tape beingwound and stretched around the capstan etc. Or something may be caught in the main drive belt which is toothed. Again don't try a DIY job on it, get a pro to do the job. For interests sake the camera is a Professional SP Betacam designed for ENG work. (Electronic News Gathering)

According to Sony support, you should follow these next steps: 1. Ensure the batteries are fully charged or the AC power adapter is connected. 2. Remove any media (tape, Memory Stick®, DVD, etc.) from the camcorder. 3. Properly reinsert the media. 4. Ensure the media compartment is properly closed. 5. If the problem continues, try inserting different media. In addition according to your post it is very likely that you busted the tape mechanism. In this case only a certified technician can help you. I hope you work it out

I have a NV-DX110B about 11 years old. I'm getting

Your camera appears slightly older than mine so I will do my best for you. Have you tried ejecting the tape with the power off? If I have problems I slide the eject button when the camera is off but plugged in and the tape can be ejected. I suspect the tape mechanism is in trouble. When a tape stuck in mine I had to literally force the cover open. But this is a last resort.

Give my suggestion a try and apologies if you have already tried that...

Sony Handycam CCD-TRV37 8mm Analog... 2 Problems, maybe more unknown at this time:

This does require disassembly to remedy the problem. There are various possible fixes. The most prevelant I have seen is cold solder connections of the board connector for the fpc cable from the top operation switch block ass'y. All you need is someone who can handle this task, like a professional. The controls that you are experiencing problems with are all linked with one cable and connector. One bad solder joint can cause serveral operation faults. Good Luck, magic seadog

Tape not ejecting from drive after 60 secs pressing eject button. I can hear it 'clicking' but no attempt to eject the tape is made. I would be very grateful for some advice regarding what I might do next.

can you detail the model No or compaq spares No for the drive - the clicking makes it sound to me like a DAT but unable to proceed without more info.

If it is a DAT (compaq used both Sony and HP mechs) try disconnecting the scsi cable from the scsi card, rebooting the drive and trying again.

If that doesnt work try a 00pt screwdriver in the manual eject point of the drive and unload manually (about 1000 turns!)

Failing that try www.tape-drive-repair.com as they are pretty good price wise for a repair / exchange

Eject button is not working

I had this problem and thought it was time to get rid of my vcr. I could still record and playback but could not eject. I was ready to toss the thing out, then decided to open the unit just to see what I could see. Turned out, someone had should've a DVD in the VHS slot, (probably my granddaughter) and it was keeping it from ejecting. Don't know if your solution could be as easy as mine, but you never know.

Dirty video head! Playback newly opened blank tape for five minutes, after that eject, reinsert, playback then eject again five times, these will serve as your video head cleaner, never use "video head cleaning cassette tape" for it will only damage your camera. Most camera has built in video head cleaner installed inside and activates only when you insert, initial play/rec, and ejects a tape. If the problem is still there you need pro fix then.[:0)

Image and sound problems at playback

your tape guides are out of calibration on all your pre - recorded tapes , or they are out of adjustment ( maybe even loose ) now ; - - put your camcorder close , next to your ear ? and . . . listen ! to a new tape in play mode - if you hear a fluttering sound like a deck of cards being shuffled softly , the camera is damaging all your tapes and needs alignment ;
