Preventive maintenance craftsman 5600 generator

What should I do when storing my craftsman 5600 ac generator. I have run all of the gas out of it by allowing the unit to exhaust its gas supply. Someone said I was supposed to drain the carb. but that would be a hard thing to so.

Do I need to drain the carb? If so, how do you do that?

Thanks for your support.

There should be a little bowl on the bottom of the carb if so take the bowl off and a gas can & funnel it should drain everything out the reason for draining all the gas out is if you don't most of the time it will start coroding the parts & when you go to use it again it wont run because the float is stuck or corosion in carb hope that helps e-mail me let me know thanks wade

Craftsman 1/2 hp garage opener opens and closes, but when it is finished closing the opener buzzes. When I put the door up the buzzing stops. The light has not worked for several years. I replaced

For the lights, very common the contacts get flattened out and melted. I see this every day. Unplug the opener and let it sit for about 30 min. I never wait but just to be safe, let the capacitor loose its charge. With a precision flathead screwdriver or fingernail, bend the contacts in the light socket out about 1/8". Should help. Buzzing concerns me a little. May be an electrical issue. These openers use an AC brushed motor. They get very hot and in rare cases can catch fire. Theres gear grease and dust inside that has ignited in a few motors. There is an overheat switch built in but dont count on it. I would suggest buying a new machine. Find a DC motor with a belt drive. They last the longest and require the least maintenance. Marantec make the best in my opinion.

When garage door opener is pressed my Seras garage door motor gives a humming sound for a few seconds but does not run. Do I need to have the motor replaced? Thanks

I suspect that your starting motor capacitor has bit the dust. many AC induction motors require a starting capacitor to give the motor a boost past the initial maganetic pulse, especially ones that have a large load. You can probably purchase one at the Sears on line store, but they cost about 25 bucks, and this may not be the exact problem. It may be that the motor windings have shorted. You have a choice of replacing the whole door opener for 150 bucks or try replacing the starting capacitor.

I have a two car garage with two Craftsman garage door openers with backup power. This morning when I went out to the garage one of them was making a clicking sound and now there is no power at the at the...

There are two conditions when the BBU will no longer function:
  1. When the batteries are discharged due to door operations or normal standby current draw in BBU mode, the Yellow LED will flash and the beeper will “beep” once every 30 seconds until battery voltage reaches 23 volts. At 23 volts, a relay is switched that physically disconnect electrical power to the batteries to prevent deep discharge and, hence, possible battery damage.
  2. If the BBU is under AC power and the battery voltage is below 19 volts, a red LED is turned on and the system will not attempt to charge the battery. At this point the unit needs to be serviced and batteries should be replaced.

I have a craftsman 5600 generator and two of the plugins do not work

Hey there - I just bought mine and I had the same problem and I JUST fixed it! Here was my problem...perhaps it is the same. The two bottom plugs didn't work...the top two worked fine. What I did was unsrew the gas tank and propped it up with a 2x4 in order to give me more room. Then I unscrewed the black electric box that is behind the outlets. There are 5 wires that connect to the generator. Black, Gray, Blue, Green and RED. I noticed the RED wire (upper right) was not seated correctly and then when I seated it ... everything worked great. Soooo....I got a very small screw driver and scrapped the inside of the "connector" which had this microscopic piece of plastic preventing the wire to fit into the connector snugly. I screwed everything back on and it is working wonderfully. Let me know if this helps or if I can clarify anything or you. Brian
