Question about Acer Aspire 5100-5022 Notebook

1 Answer

Replaccement AC adapter charger issue

I have an Acer Aspire 5100-3949 (out of warranty) and my dog chewed into the AC adapter/charger thereby creating a small break in the wiring. It will still function somewhat if wiggled but I also have had arcing thereby making it possibly dangerous to continue to use.

That being said, I have tried to purchase replacements from sources like EBay and had each seller confirm that it was compatible with my specific laptop.

I have had to return them because they made my touchpad act erractically (i.e., cursor not responding, cursor only moving in certain directions, etc.) however once operating on either battery or original adapter the touchpad acts normally.

I have checked Acer’s website and the model adapter/charger that seems to be compatible is out of stock.

Any ideas on what would cause this behaviour and what to look for, in terms of specs, to attempt to avoid the problem on the next purchase.

Thanks in Advance,

I have to keep unplugging/plugging in the adapator to the laptop and not move it in order for it to charge. If the battery drains completely, it won't charge at all while the laptop is on. The power cord is not damaged in any way. Suggestions?

If you used electrical tape and firmly wrap the tape around, your cable should be secure enough to continue use. Just be careful around your dog.

I hope this helps address your problem.

Laptop keyboard does not work after dog laid on computer

Tell dog to grab it's allowance, and buy you a new laptop

NO?

Then protest around the dog daily until it does

(No, you have to feed it)

[Hold the dog's chew toy for ransom. Chew on it a little bit so dog will get the message.
"Hey! Ain't kidding around here! Laptop or I keep this!" ]

OR,

Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Press the Power On button, and hold it in for a count of 10 seconds.
(And I mean 10. Count; 1001,..1002,..1003,...etc)

Let go of the Power On button. Do this procedure two more times.
Reinstall Battery, THEN reattach AC adapter to laptop, and THEN plug AC adapter into power.

WAIT 1 minute,....turn the laptop on.

It won't charge and the power and batter light are all blinking

The first steps you could apply are-

1. Check the plug points. Test some other charger on the same plug point. If it's working, then go for the next step.

2. Use an alternate acer aspire 3000 charger. If you have a friend with the same laptop / same charging adaptor, borrow it and see whether the laptop is being charged from that. Or you could go to an electronics shop and see whether they have a spare charger just for checking purposes. If no adapter works, then it's not the adapter's fault, it's the fault of the laptop charging port.

3. To be sure, you could attach your adapter to an extension cable (a spike guard would be suitable. It prevents sudden peaks in current, thereby protecting your laptop from damage) . If it doesn't charge still, it's a fault within the laptop.

To check the charging port within the laptop, you'll have to go to a hardware specialist (assuming that like me, you're not adept at hardware!) . The specialist should guide you properly.

If the laptop is within the warranty period, you could try the service centre. Hope I've helped :)

I have lost my lead to my acer laptop aspire5100 series model number BL51 19v .474Acan you help.I am a mature age person thanking you Pat

There are two solutions to this problem, Pat.

One is to buy the correct AC adapter (Charger) for the laptop.
Two is to buy an aftermarket AC adapter that will work for your laptop, but will also work for many other laptops.

1) http://www.usbphoneworld.com/acer-adapter-19342-65w-lc-adt01-aspire-5520-ac-acer-aspire-5100-ac-adapter.html?CAWELAID=950033775

The above is from a quick search. Your search may be better. Just put Acer Aspire 5100 charger, in your search box.

2) From another quick search,

http://www.atbatt.com/laptop-chargers/b/acer/m/aspire-5100.asp?utm_source=google&utm_medium=ppc&utm_keyword=Acer+Aspire+5100+Charger&utm_content=NAC-X90-22&utm_campaign=google0&gclid=CLeDr7qIlqsCFQ9S7Aodvn_TXA

Would also like to commend you for your intelligence.
Stating the Voltage, 19V, and the Amperage, 4.74A ,is a really intelligent thing to do.

(The charger MUST have 19 Volts for the Voltage. The Amperage (Amp's, or A), can be more)

It just wont turn on i have checked the power lead and its ok its an acer aspire 5050 laptop

Hi. I would suggest you double check the ac adapter if the powercord is properly attach to it ot also you might want to try powerdraining or powercycling your computer. To do this you must turn off your laptop then remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds while the battery and ac adapter is out, after that place back the battery and plugin the ac adapter and try turning on your laptop, if this doesnt work then try power draining it again and just use the ac adapter or just plug it in without the battery then try again turning it on. If it still has the power issue then try a known good ac adapter so that you could double check that it is not an ac adapter issue or a battery issue. If all that trouble shooting step doesnt work then you could also try calling acer tech support to help you on your issue if your machine or laptop is still under warranty they would help you fix it by sending that laptop to there depot without any charge. Hope this Helps
