Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies

My lexmark X1200 just quit. All simple solutions failed so I uninstalled program and downloaded the most recent updated program and it is downloaded to my files. When I try to install, it only takes me to the point where I have to re-connect my cables...at that point my only option is to cancel...will not let me continue. Is this related to the printer spooler?

Your solution says to unplug printer...do you mean the UBS cable or electrical outlets? Also says to restart spools...don't know how to do this. lynnjudy

I replaced my UBS cable and can get no further on installing the program. Went into device manager and found not one single mention of a printer or anything remotely connected to a printer. Next I'm going to try to find someone (computer geek?) who can tell me if my printer is shot. Will keep you informed. lynnjudy

The power source for the Lexmark quit and repair costs would probably have cost more than a new printer so we bought a new hp printer and have it installed and are ready to go. Thank you for your help...learned a lot about my computer from your suggestions.

Goes up to the point where the installer asks you to connect the USB cable and it's not detecting the printer.

Cancel installation.
Make sure printer is connected directly to the computer, no USB hubs.
Go to Device Manager and look for Universal Serial Bus Controllers, expand.

All USB printers when connected to a Windows machine, the operating system loads "USB Printing Support". Look for that entry. If none is found, means no physical connection. Either the computers USB port or the printers port or the USB cable. Hot swap cables & ports.

However if it shows but with an exclamation mark or a red X , do right-click on it and uninstall then disconnect printer + reboot computer. On boot perform normal driver installation.

Try connecting the printer to another computer, just do the steps above to verify what equipment works.

There is a simple test that you can do for your printer.

1. Connect the USB cable and power make sure that it is powered on.
2. Click start then run then type in devmgmt.msc
3. That will take you to the device manager.
4. See if you can detect your printer there. If it is not there or nothing there has a question mark or exclamation point then your printer unfortunately is toast.

Given that your USB cable is working properly by the way.

A print spooler is software that temporarily stores print jobs on the computer hard disk or in memory until the printer is ready to print them. If you have been waiting an unusually long time for a document to print, or if you see an error message about the print spooler, spooler subsystem, or spooler resources, you might need to change and then restart the Print Spooler service on your computer.

To do this, we recommend that you save your work, and then restart the computer to restart the Print Spooler service. If you don not want to restart the computer, try these steps instead.

To change or restart the Print Spooler service and Printer Repair You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click Services. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Right-click the Print Spooler service, and then click Properties.
4. On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
5. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Is it getting detected on the usb

Posted on Sep 11, 2008

  • Sameer Kashyap Sep 11, 2008

Print spooler is not in the picture at the moment. First make sure that the printer is getting detected by windows as soon as you plug it the USB Port.

If Yes than you need to have the printed unplugged while installing the software and you need to plug it in when you reach the screen you mentioned.

Also you may try to restore your system to a previous date, when the printer was working fine.
    It should help.

Can't reinstall my Lexmark printer

Usually, that can easily be resolved by uninstalling the printer completely, then reinstalling it. To uninstall properly, click on the Windows logo Start menu > Programs > Lexmark 6500 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Then restart pc. To reinstall, you can use the installation cd or if you don't have it or you lost it and since you have dial-up which is slow in terms of downloading, you can contact Lexmark Technical Support for assistance. They'll be able to send you one for free. Hope this helps. If you need more assistance, leave a comment and I'll get back to it. Thanks.

Cannot uninstall Lexmark Fax Solution.

Go to www.download.com put in Revo uninstaller in the search box. select the program for download and download it. Run the program. The window will come up and show all installations on the computer. Pick the program you want to get rid of. select program and click uninstall in the header, the program will initiate the programs own self installer first, when it is done or if it fails, Revo will continue with the uninstall. Make sure to choose option (4) when prompted with the type of removal you need. if prompted to restart windows after the uninstall, ignore and continue with the Revo program. Click next when it is highlighted by Revo and select all when prompted to delete files. Revo will prompt you when it has finished, just say yes to all files to delete.

Lexmark 1270 all-in-one

Explanation

A clicking noise from the scanner is probably caused by the driver for the scanner.

Resolution

1.
Download the latest driver from www.lexmark.com.
2.
Once the driver is installed, power the printer off and back on again.

Additional information

The original driver CD for the X1200 printers had part number 17M4160, and some early X1200s were shipped with this driver CD. When the X1200 was manufactured with a new scanbar, the updated driver CD became part number (PN) 17M4360. The updated CD should have been included in the box of new products being shipped. If the X1200 is making a "clicking noise" when you try to scan and the CD PN 17M4160 was installed, you need to download and install the web driver which supports ALL the X1200 printers. NOTE: The X1200 driver CD PN 17M4360 works with ALL X1200s also.
