Question about Sony DAV-SC8 System

3 Answers

Flashing standby message.

Most functions work fine i.e sound for the T.V but when you push the power button to standby the system just flashes 'standby'. Also if you try to switch to DVD mode either by using the function button or inserting a DVD the system just goes blank with nothing lit. Only way to get it working in both cases so I can get sound for my T.V is to switch off then on at the socket. Any help would be great.

Thanks for your help Techman. I just wanted to give you more info on my problem.

I can use all functions. TV, video 1, video 2 and Tuner. If i select DVD then the display shows 'DVD' for a second then goes blank. Press the function button gets you back to the other functions ok.

Also if the standby button is pressed then i get the flashing standby message until i power off then on at the mains.

I thought the DVD drive module might be at fault, so i tried it with the DVD module disconnected but was left with exactly the same fault.

    Hope you can help.

Are any of the buttons not making a click feel when you press them like maybe one is stuck?? You didnt say if the same thing happen with the radio as did with the cd. If it is then a switch is stuck or bad or a problem with the switch matrix for the Microprocesor . Only way to trouble shoot this is I would use a scope and check all of the matrix {ie scann lines as well as input lines for distortion or noise and make sure when the buttons are pussed that they change and switch accordinly. If they dont then the processors bad. Good luck

If you disconnect the CD Deck and it does the same thing then I would assume that theres gotta be a problem in the microprocessor curcuit.

Mum pressed some buttons on amp now the amp wont respond to the original remote or the universal remote. buttons wont work, batteries good and lights up. is there a button that blocks ir signal?

Looking at the user guide it appears that the amp has a standby mode.

See not below on turning standby on. Question can you see the standby light flashing.

I would also suggest using function on the amp to remove any possible issues with the remote.

One would expect the system to return to normal operation by pressing the power button again. If not what do you see on the display.

Note:
Press 1 to turn on the receiver. You can also turn on the receiver using 1 on the remote control. When you turn off the receiver, press 1 again. "STANDBY" flashes on the display panel. Do not disconnect the AC power cord (mains lead) while "STANDBY" is flashing. This may cause a malfunction.

Denon AVR-1908 won't power on

Are you getting a standby light at all? Is it flashing? Do you here a click when you plug the unit in? If the answer is no to all of these then you blew a fuse. If you do have soome sort of standby light, then your set is in protect mode. More than likely for a blown channel. If no lights, but you ar egetting a click, you could have a bad transformer. Use a DVM and see if it is open or not. Good luck

I have an AT&T 1810 answering system ( phone and answering machine combned ), and the memory seems to be full, and it won't let me retrieve the messages. There is a "10" that keeps flashing,...

if you lift the lid, to where you set your announcement, you will see a 3 number code there. I'm not sure how to incorporate that into the system, but it should function like a retrieve button, when calling from another phone. As in I haven't tried that function, I am very unsure is this will work. I know it would be so nice to be able to find a owners manual.

My pioneer vsx 815 amplifier has a flashing blue standby light. Have tried resetting by pressing enter and advanced surround keys. All it does is flash a few other LEDs and then goes back to the flashing...

"enter and advanced surround keys"? I don't see that documented as a special function in the manual.

BTW: other than the Flashing light, is there a malfunction?

Page 72 describes how it REALLY resets...

Resetting the main unit

Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to the factory default. Use the front

panel controls to do this.

1 Switch the receiver into standby.

2 While holding down the TONE button, press and hold the STANDBY/ON button for about three seconds.

3 When you see RESET? appear in the display, press ENTER .

OK? shows in the display.

4 Press SYSTEM SETUP to confirm.

OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver has been reset to the factory default
settings.

Sony LBT W5000

According to Page 46 of the LBT-W5000 Operating Instructions:
"The display stars flashing as soon as you plug in the power cord even though you haven't turned on the system (demonstration mode).
Press DISPLAY (for LBT-W5000 / W300 / XB700 / XB500) or DEMO (STANDBY) (for other models) while the system is off. If the system is in the Power Saving mode, press POWER SAVE / DEMO (STANDBY) (for LBT-W5000 / W300 / XB700 / XB500). The demonstration appears automatically the first time you plug in the power cord, or if there is a power outage lasting longer than half a day."
I tested this today, as my LBT-W5000 was in Demonstration Mode. It definitely works. The only catch is (at least on the W5000), and it's a minor one, you have to reset your clock afterwards.

Setting alarm

Alarm can only be set or disabled when the power in "Standby" mode. The manual refers to it as power "off" mode, but the LCD display will still be readable only darker. To set the alarm push the Standby button until the sound stops and the LCD is dark. Then push the AL SET button (which doubles as the volume down button when the power is "on"). The hour should start flashing. Adjust the hour by using the two buttons at the bottom on the right side just above the IR sensor. Once you've set the hour, push the AL SET button again and similarly adjust the minutes until you have the right time that you want the alarm to go off. Now push the AL SOURCE button (which also doubles as the function button when the power is "on") to toggle between Radio, CD, iPod or buzzer for your alarm. After you're satisfied that the time is right and the source is right push the AL SET button again. The LCD should still be dark, but should also show the word "ALARM" in the upper left hand corner.
To set the unit so the alarm doesn't go off push the "Standby" button until the sound stops and the LCD is dark. Push the AL SET button until the hour is flashing. Don't bother to adjust the time, just push the AL SOURCE button until none of the following appear: CD, iPod, Radio, Buzzer. As you push the AL SOURCE button it will toggle between these options. Once you're sure none of them appear on the left of the display, click the AL SET button again. The LCD should still be dark, and you should not see the word "ALARM" in the upper left hand corner.
