Thats why Gateway went down the tubes , bad customer service and just really cheeply made computers.

A month is Vastly too long for a repair , I would contact my lawyer.

And it would be a cival lawsuit.

Or you can demand your computer back reguardless of it's condition , and have it looked at by
a trained professional localy , and of course check them over to see if they are established and reputable.

or you can simply pray and excersize grace in this matter.

9 status lights

I'm not sure what you mean 9 status lights. Each computer case has lights and can be very different depending how it's configured. The owners manual should in detail tell you what the lights mean. Are you talking about lights on the computer case or the motherboard

Need power on default password Battery died and this became the roblew

  • Hello mark_stru, I'm not sure which battery you are talking about; but if you are describing the CMOS Battery, this would be the cause of the 'Password'' problem. Note: you may need a "New CMOS Battery"! If it was just the "Rechargable" battery than we are talking about a lot of duration time that the computer was without power. So; if by chance you didn't 'create a "Supervisor Password" to prevent anyone from changing the configurations in the BIOS / CMOS Setup? than we are OK! Lets just say [No] for now. Once you have power to your computer. Start it up, and follow these steps: 1. When you hear the computer start-up, there will be a message that flashes very quickly at the bottom of the screen, it will read; Press F2 or F12. The area of your attention will be [F2] Key at the top of the keyboard. The F2 Key will open the CMOS / BIOS Setup. paul7of9_15.jpg 2. Once this screen appear, you will see a 'Listing" of different set-ups. There will be instructions in the [right] Help ? area. You be using the "Arrow Keys" to (Select and Choose Items). In the first screen, there will be on the (right of the screen). 3. Set Supervisor Password = This is the "Password Setting that will prevent anyone from getting into without authorization this area that you are in now, to "Change or Configure" CMOS or BIOS setting. 4. Set User Password = This Password is use for "Logins / User Accounts... You want to "Reset or Change the Supervisor Password. Do so, and to finish; remember to use the [F10 Key] to 'Save the Changes

I have a dial tone, but will not dial .I have a HP Pavilion computer and use a dial up service. I delt with HP on this 4 months ago and they sent me a new modem, and curred the problem. Now the problem has...

If it is a USB modem, connect it to a different computer, and try it.
If it fails to connect, with _two_ different computers, then the problem is in the modem, not in your HP computer. Give that information to HP.

Or, switch to high-speed "lite" (as in "lite beer"), for about the same amount per month as for dial-up, and throw the modem away.

Supervisor password

A Supervisor password protects the system information stored in the BIOS. The user must enter the Supervisor password in order to get access to the ThinkPad BIOS Setup Utility in order to change the system configuration. If the Supervisor password is forgotten there is no way to reset it to enter the BIOS configuration. Setting a Supervisor password automatically sets the master Hard drive password. The following is the icon that comes up in the upper left corner if a Supervisor password is set:
A forgotten Supervisor password will prevent access to the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility. To regain access, the system will need to be serviced to have the system board and hard drive replaced. Proof of purchase is required, and this repair is not covered under the warranty.

You must be talking about a startup password that protects unknown users from even booting the OS or getting in BIOS... Usually the only way to fix this is to reset CMOS by battery removal (internal CMOS battery), but depending on your pc, sometimes an EEPROM chip must be replaced because these chips do not loose their value if the power is removed.

Startup Password IBM Thinkpad T40

How to Reset an IBM ThinkPad Power On Password Using Hardware If you cannot boot the ThinkPad, you will have to reset the IBM ThinkPad password via hardware. If only the power-on password is set, do the following to remove the power-on password. Power off the computer Remove the DIMM cover on the bottom side of the computer. Short-circuit the two password pads or put a jumper on the contacts to short the circuit. Under the short-circuit condition, power on the computer and wait until the POST ends. After the POST ends, the password prompt does not appear. The power-on password is removed. Reinstall the DIMM cover. If both the power-on password and the supervisor password are set, do the following to remove the passwords: Power on the computer by pressing and holding F1. Enter the supervisor password. The Easy-Setup menu appears. Click on the Password icon. Click on the Power on icon. Enter the supervisor password and press the Space bar. Press Enter twice. Click on Exit; then click on Restart.
