Enable wireless capability


Certain models of Acer desktop computers are designed with wireless capabilities.
These capabilities can be added to an Acer desktop system that does not connect wirelessly with either an internal or external wireless card, depending on the computer's configuration.
When the wireless connection is not working properly, you can troubleshoot the issue yourself.
The troubleshooting process eliminates the problems that may be preventing the Acer desktop computer from connecting wirelessly.

Check to see if any other computers at the same location are able to connect wirelessly.

Turn on your computer and locate the Wi-Fi icon. This could be located on the upper row on a laptop it will have the radiation look ((())) Make sure its pressed on. Usually a wifi enabled phone, computer, or whatever device, will recognize if there is wifi access near you. Most new HP (Hewlett-Packard) Pavilion notebook computers as of August 2010 include an internal wireless networking adapter, used to connect to a wireless network or router. Once connected to a router, the computer can connect to the Internet or other computers on the same network. If the wireless networking adapter is not allowing the computer to connect to a router, there are several steps that can be used to remedy the problem. Ensure that the wireless network adapter is turned on. Most HP Pavilion notebook computers have a switch that allows you to turn off the wireless adapter. The switch typically is located on the side of the computer or on the front. Ensure that the router and modem are plugged in and functioning. Ensure that the lights are illuminated on each device. Attempt to connect wirelessly using another computer, if possible, to test whether the connection problem is with the router or modem. Unplug the router and modem. Leave the power off for approximately 30 to 60 seconds, then turn them on again. Update the wireless network adapter driver using the computer's "Device Manager." To access the Device Manager, right-click on "Computer" or "My Computer," depending on the version of Windows, and click "Device Manager" from the left-side bar, or from the tab labeled "Hardware." Once in the Device Manager, expand the section labeled "Networking Devices" and right-click on the wireless network adapter. Click "Update driver software" to begin searching for an update. If an update is found, follow the onscreen instructions to install the update. Reinstall the wireless networking adapter if updating the driver does not remedy the problem. To reinstall the wireless adapter driver, right-click on it from the Device Manager and select "Uninstall." Once the device is removed from the computer, restart the computer. Hi.

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings.
What i want you to do is right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "un-install" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

4 steps to set up your home wireless network

Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.

Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

I am trying to set up xbox live for my son but when i try to go live on the xbox dashboard it says that wireless network not connected but i have a wireless network running in my house and need to know how...


  1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.

  2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."

  3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.

  4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)

  5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead. Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
  6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.

    On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.

    On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.
Tips:
  1. Even when your wireless connection between the Xbox and the router is working perfectly, you may still experience difficulty connecting to Xbox Live. These issues can be caused by the quality of your Internet connection or the firewall and Network Address Translation (NAT) settings of your wireless router. Additional troubleshooting may be required in these areas to achieve reliable Xbox Live connections.

Open the router page 192.168.1.1 >> type this in the internet explorer address bar.
1. the Home Page is displayed. Click Wireless from the left menu
2.The settings to Wireless section of Router appear.Click Channel and SSID.
3.Changing the Wireless Network Name (SSID)
To identify your wireless network, a name called the SSID is used. The SSID is your network name. The default network name of the Router is Belkin N1 Wireless followed by six digits that are unique to your Router. Your network name will look something like Belkin_N1_Wireless_123456.
You can change this to anything you choose, or you can leave it unchanged. Keep in mind, if you decide to change your wireless network name, and there are other wireless networks operating in your area, your network name needs to be different from other wireless networks that may be operating in your area. To change the SSID, type in the SSID that you want to use in the SSID field and click Apply Changes.
The change is immediate. If you make a change to the SSID, your wireless-equipped computers may also need to be reconfigured to connect to your new network name. Refer to the documentation of your wireless network adapter for information on making this change.
4.Changing the Wireless Channel
There are a number of operating channels from which you can choose—in the United States, there are 11 and in the United Kingdom (and most of Europe), there are 13.
In a small number of other countries, there are other channel requirements. Your Router is configured to operate on the proper channels for the country in which you reside. The channel can be changed if needed. If there are other wireless networks operating in your area, your network should be set to operate on a channel that is different than the other wireless networks.
Select channel from Wireless Channel drop-down menu. Click Apply Changes.
5.Using the Wireless Mode Switch
This switch allows you to set the Router’s wireless modes. There are several modes. Note: Some modes may require firmware updates to be enabled.
1) 802.11g only
Setting the Router to this mode will allow only 802.11g-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out any slower 802.11b devices.
2) 802.11g & 802.11b
Setting the Router to this mode will let 802.11g- and 802.11b-compliant devices to join the network.
3) 802.11n & 802.11g
Setting the Router to this mode will allow N1/draft 802.11n- and 802.11g-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out any slower 802.11b devices.
4) 802.11n only
Setting the Router to this mode will allow only N1/draft 802.11n-compliant devices to join the network, keeping out 802.11g and 802.11b devices.
5) Off
This mode will turn OFF the Router’s access point, so no wireless devices can join the network. Turning off the wireless function of your Router is a great way to secure your network when you are away from home for a long period of time, or don’t want to use the wireless feature of the Router at a certain time.
Select wireless mode from Wireless Mode drop-down menu. Click Apply Changes.
6. Using the Broadcast SSID Feature
Note: This advanced feature should be employed by advanced users only. For security, you can choose not to broadcast your network’s SSID. Doing so will keep your network name hidden from computers that are scanning for the presence of wireless networks. To turn off the broadcast of the SSID, remove the check mark from the box next to Broadcast SSID, and then click Apply Changes.
The change is immediate. Each computer now needs to be set to connect to your specific SSID; an SSID of ANY will no longer be accepted. Refer to the documentation of your wireless network adapter for information on making this change

u will see an option which says wireless settings.click on
wireless settings.then u need to look for the option which says
wpa security passphrase,just put the passphrase there n
click on apply,ur wireless connx will be secured. Selah :-)

Have a new Satellite P305-S8812 notebook and cannot connect to the internet wirelessly. N Rounter just installed. Computer has B/G wireless technology. Do I need an adapter for the notebook to connect?


nope there is no need for any adapters

but all you need is to turn on the wireless adapter on your laptop and that would be either a button on the sides to turn on and off the wireless adapter or its a key (function key) on your keyboard (its always with an antenna shape and blue colored) if u have that key then click and hold the (Fn blue colored key) and the (antenna blue colored key) and release both that should turn on the wireless adapter.

and notice that with the new routers there is a security key that is already set up in the router (it should be in the back of the router and mostly 10 digits).
