Wavy colored lines of captioning at all times, can't turn off

My tv has wavy colored lines of closed captioning that can't be turned off. It also has a huge black square in the middle of the screen that can only be turned off by pushing in the action button, but that brings up the scrolling bar of the menu. Any ideas?

Try first unplugging the power cord for fifteen or twenty minutes , see if this can reset and fix the problem.

More than the lines, the weird thing is the black spot at the center of the screen.
If the spot was always there, it was just an object in the middle of the light tunnel inside the TV, this is wuite common and not too difficult to fix.
As the spot is disappearing when you press the menu, that means that it is an electronic problem.
The lines are probably a faulty IC or another similar problem. For both problems there is no simple solution.
The only solution is taking apart the TV, inspecting the light device at eyesight, and testing the onboard components.
The black spot ( unless is a light tunnel problem) won't even be mentioned in the service manual, there is no troubleshooting diagram for it, it means that this will be a difficult job even for a technician.
Probably the solution is replacing the jungle chip , that is thhe main CPU that controls your TV board, and re flashing the eeprom where the TV firmware is stored.
Both operations must be done at a panasonic service center.

Call the phone number at the end of the user manual to contact PANA. If the unit is still under guaranty the job can be done for free.
If guaranty is expired you should be able to buy an extension that will be less that the repair fee and will cover you for one year or two.

Wavy lines appear across the screen

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

There are wavy colored lines an the screen all the

A problem like yours is NORMALLY NOT the TV set's fault....it's the Cable.

I'll bet you see thin lines moving across the entire picture...they are slanted like this >> \ \ \ \
That's generally caused by a bad ground on the antenna cable OR it can be the cable box's MODULATOR.

Try using your VIDEO OUTPUT off of your Cable box and see if the wavy lines are still present. If they are the Cable box needs swapped with a good unit.

You can also verify this problem by checking your TV with a DVD player...no lines indicate the TV is fine.

If you have problems with the DVD player's picture, then you must have dried out filtering capacitors on the Video board IN the TV set...

And THAT is not an easy fix if you do see lines with your DVD player.

Panasonic projection lcd pt-44lcx65 pink wavy lines

The problem is the computer in the TV is set to hold data for 2500 "On/Offs" Once you turn the TV on and off 2500 times, the dots start to appear as the computer cannot store anymore date. Call Panasonic, they will send a tech to your house for free and reset the computer and update it at the same time from 2500 to 1 million on/offs so it wont happen again. It takes maybe 10 mins to complete.

Hope this helps.
