I have a sony cybershot DSC-W120 (silver). When I power on the camera, the lens will not open? I am able to only review photos I have previously taken. What can I do to fix it?

Hi,

If the Lens Mechanism is stuck the lens in the Camera will not open due to the malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settings 1 Menu of the Camera to OK.This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks for contacting FixYa

Sony cybershot dsc-w120 lens goes crazy whenever I turn it on and tells me to turn it off.

The camera should go off automatically when faulty. attempt to explore teh functions on the camera is discover the unique experience beyond power shut down requests. When powered on, capture a snap shot immediately or else the camera takes charge to poweroff to save batteries. Also, attempt to power charge since the insufficeient battery does not allow the camera to stay on long.

It is problem of lens mechanism that does not send initialize signal to system control chip and camera tries 3 times for that then give up so that error message comes in result.
Replace lens assembly to fix the problem.

My Sony Cybershot DSC-W120 Super steady shot Camera won't turn on

I have the same problem, but when I remove the MS Pro Duo card (1GB) from the camera it works fine again. The memory card works fine in a pc memory card reader. Is there a problem with the Sony camera built-in card reader?

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.
