Re: Battery Door

My DSC-W1 camera's both tabs broken. I was looking for a solution when I saw this thread.
I decided to try to fix myself. Here is what I did

Tools needed:
> small nail file
> supper glue
> small piece of Alum Approx 1mm thick
> Sissor

Step1: File the tab base down about 1mm when you start to see the 'L' shape.
Step 2: Use sissor to cut the Alum sheet into Approx 3mm x 3mm square. Make sure it is flat. Position it on the base to try out the fit
Step 3: Apply supper glue to the tab base, glue on the square.
Step 4: Repeat on the second broken tab
You are done!

Where can take my DSC-W1/W12 Battery door

I have several of these little Sony cameras and had the same problem with the battery door not latching on or locking up. If you want an easy fix, just look for your camera model number on Ebay and some sellers actually sell the complete battery door. You can also buy a For Parts Only camera with the same model number and use the battery door making sure it is intact of course? I doubt you can find or buy a battery door through Sony any more, a repair shop would charge an arm and a leg for such repair and that is if they even have extra parts for a camera that old?
I fixed one of mine by cutting two small pieces of a sewing needle, yes i know it souds corny and all but it worked. What usually breaks on these camera battery doors is 2 small tiny plastic tabs that that latch on to 2 tiny tabs attached to the camera body, when the door tabs break off theres no way the door can lock and so it just hangs open. I decided to measure 2 pieces of metal, more like rods from a needle and heated the tip and pierced through the battery door matching those tabs underneath. You do have to be very patient and careful with this as you don't want to miss the angle where the original tabs use to be. I did fix my camera even though you can see 2 tiny metal rod inserted through the battery door but it held up real good and still working.

Battery door tab have broken off door want stay shut. what can i do

Sadly repairing the battery door tab would require you to replace the whole door. If your warranty is still up, contact the customer service of the camera and ask for a repair. If it's up, you're just going to have to get some tape and tape it shut.

Battery door latch broke off body of Canan A590

The same thing happened to me this week. I called Canon Canada directly and asked to order the part (The battery compartment door). They gave me a phone number to call and I was able to order the replacement door for about $8.00 + $10-$12 shipping. Hope this helps!

Broken Battery Door

I would think a call to Fuji would be in order: 800-755-3854

They should be able to sell you a new battery cover

HP Photosmart R927 Battery Compartment door latch

Same problem, The small plastic tab that extends into the slot to keep the battery compartment door broke off. I can't locate a source for replacement part. I disassembled the slide and reversed it, breaking off the little tip that fit into spring, and it sort of works, but a new plastic slide would be much better.

Fuji S3100 Broken Battery Latch

There are two potential solutions that I know of, but only if the broken tabs are on the door and not the camera body. Double check which tabs are damaged.

The first involves getting a new door somewhere (good luck with that... Fuji doesn't seem to sell the parts to civilian consumers... you might try getting the part from an old non-functional one on ebay or something). The trick to removing the battery door is to push the door's hinge pin (with the door open) towards the back (LCD side) of the camera from the opposite (front) side. There is very little clearance. I have successfully used a paint can opener to do this on a S3100. You can brace the back side of the opener against the lip of the camera body and push the pin out. Once it is as far out as possible, use needle nose plier or tweezers to grip the now exposed end of the pin and pull it all the way out. Then put the new door in place and re-insert the pin... there may be a little resistance.

The other was recommended to me by a camera repair man, but I have not tried. I would probably have let him do the work, as it seems a little risky, but possible. It basically involves getting a small washer that will fit under the two latching tabs near one another on the body. After figuring out the correct position for the washer to be attached to the door that it will just slide under the tabs and secure the door, you must use a small countersunk screw through the central hole in the washer to attach it to the door. You might have to remove the rim of the door in that area with an exacto knife or something similar so the washer will fit well. Like I said, I would have probably let him do the work, but it sounds like it would work.

Another idea that just occurred to me is a little more work intensive but would probably work would be to sink a (coarse thread) screw through the door all the way into the plastic of the body (maybe 2 or 3 in different places), which could simply be unscrewed any time you wanted to change the batteries with relatively little trouble.

Good luck! =)

Battery door broken

Yes i have fixed it. Sorry for my spell, but i try. First i kutt off the little broken plastic-bits with a knife. Demontage the four skrews in the battery flip. I take a little bit stainless string ca 0,5 mm dia and ca 20mm long. I hold this string with a handtool (tong)and put a soldering-heater on the end off the string and pusch the string troth down two times and get two holes there the two tabs have been. And after that a bend with a tong the string like an U (2x90 degrees) exaktly after the hole-with. And after that a pusch down the string in the two holes exaktly so high so the little finger on the battery-door go in. Test and try with the battery-door. And take a thinn tong and bend out the string to the left and to the right inside the kamera. Thats it. Work with care and slow and exaktly with mm-tholeranse. Good luck !!
