My tv turns on, but gets no picture. It occasionally flashes the display, but quickly goes blank.

I have the same problem. Factory reset did not help (hold Vol-minus on set and menu on remote five seconds, then unplug). Can there be something in service mode that would help?

You have a weak capacitors in the power supply. Your description has enabled me to say this is the solution. We TV techs call this "breathing". You may control some of this with raising the contrast and brightness to see the picture stabilize.You will need a TV tech to correct the power supply. I have not worked on projection TVs for some time. This is a classic problem with a classic fix. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Reset the drum count by pressing "Clear" then "Exposure Mode" then "Clear" then "Exposure Mode"
Exposure mode is far left key on panel. You need to do this fairly quickly so that the display goes blank.
Once display goes blank then key in 24 then press print, then key in 7 then press print. You should now be getting flashing 000
Turn machine off then on and light should be gone.
Short version: C,far left,C,far left,24,print,7,print

If the lamp has been replaced I would think the Lamp ballast would be most likliest followed by the color wheel and then the Digital board. You can get any part needed for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com just leave them a email they respond quickly.

If you occasionally have a picture then you stand a good chance of repairing this tv. There are bad grounds on the deflection board. Start with the board that has the flyback. I do not know the year of your tv. Sometimes the same model may have an option improvement than one couple of months earlier. The first suspected problem would be the vertical IC. In some cases this ic is located on the convergence board and in others the flyback board. It has seven pins and is the TDA version. Located on a large heatsink. Resolder this and any other grounds on both board. Some will tell you the P I P board is bad. This is a free standing board that can be removed and replaced. But please do the earlier option first.

Try unplugging for 36 hours. I had the same problem but with no sound and picture

You most definately have bad capacitors in the power supply. try and get it repaired as soon as possible, not an expensive repair that iv'e seen.

Wow, thats quite a unique symptom. Usually on the Panasonics, when the screen goes blank it is because the vertical output IC has cracked solder joints, but in that case you will not see the channel numbers displayed on the screen. If you have good audio but see absolutely no picture but you do get channel numbers on the screen then there is a problem in the video circuits. The fact that you say it happens occasionally suggests that a solder joint has cracked loose somewhere in those video circuits and that should be an easy repair that should not cost too much money, so it is fixable and I would not toss the TV yet.
