Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook

Resetting the Computer (HP Pavilion dv1000)

I was told that by pressing F10 while starting my computer the whole system would go back to factory settings.
It did not turn out to be that easy, when I press F10 I'm brought in to a menu with various choices, but I don't know what to choose.
I want to clean my hard drive and get it back to how it was when I brought it back from the store. Does anybody have a simple solution to this, is the answer in the F10 menu?

Thank you

This is the page I get when pressing F10:
    http://img391.imageshack.us/img391/6344/...

As for CDs I got with my computer I have "HP Quickplay Application
Restore", "Oppeationalsystem-CD Microsoft, Windows XP Home SP2",
"Application and Driver Recovery DVD" and "Notebook Documentation".

Which ones should I use if I want to clean or reset my computer... how
do I do it. Is there some idiot's guide to do it, because I really
don't want to mess up my computer.

    Thanks

Hello RogueM,

By pressing F10 at the notebook startup will lead you to the BIOS settings screen.
DV1000 notebook is hsipped with restore disks. With which you can clean your hard drive and install fresh copy of operating system.

The option for going directly to factory settings is not available on your notebook. This option works when the notebook is shipped with the recovery partiion.

You can clean the hard drive even if you have the retail version of operating disk with you.

Double click "My Compter" In the window that opens you should see your harddrive "C" if you see another harddrive listed usually "D" with HP or Compaq as the name then that is the recovery partition for your computer and that is what F10 is going to use to restore your machine.
What options are you being given? it has been a while since I did one of these.

That picture shows the BIOS screnn, if you are getting that when you press F10 then I think you can assume that you don't have a recovery partition and you will need to restore your laptop using the recovery disks.

You will need to put the Windows disk in the CD drive and restart the machine, then follow the on screen instructions.

This is a link to the service manual for your machine, it's a little over complicated for what you want but if you follow the flow chart in paragraph 2.14 (no OS) it will run you through the complete reinstall procedure.

I need help on restoring my compaq armada e500

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
You could try these steps on restoring your laptop into its factory defaults.
1)Turn off your computer if it is on. Wait for the system to shut down completely. Once it is off, press the "Power" button to turn it back on. Press the "F10" button at the top of the keyboard repeatedly as soon as you see the screen turn on. This will let you enter the setup menu.
2)Use the arrow keys to move between the various menu tabs at the top of the screen. Press the "Right" button until the "File" tab is highlighted, then press the "Enter" button to enter this menu. Here you can make changes to the settings of your computer, or in this instance, restore factory default settings.
3)Use the "Up" and "Down" arrow buttons to move to the "Restore Defaults" option, then press enter. You will see a screen asking "Are You Sure You Wish to Restore System Defaults?" Press the "Y" button to continue. The system will begin restoring your default settings. Do not press a button until a screen says "System Defaults Restored."
4)Use the arrow keys to move down to the "Save Changes and Exit" option and press "Enter." The system will save your changes and automatically reboot your computer. You do not need to press "F10" this time as the computer will start Windows normally. You will see the factory settings have been restored once the system loads.
Hope this could help!

Why are you trying to restore the laptop back to factory settings?
