Question about Garmin Quest GPS Receiver

Garmin quest won't swith on.

I recently bought a motorcycle mount for the quest. I have a BMW R1150gs. I bought the auxillary plug and connected it to the lead from the mount. I tested the quest and it was working fine. I plugged the whole thing into the bike and put the quest in the cradle. It won't switch on. I removed it from the cradle and it won't work at all now. In frustration I bought another quest(second hand) that worked fine. I fitted fuses in the power line and double checked all power leads and contacts. I then put it all back on the bike and put the new GPS in it. Guess what!! No go!! I will not work at all either. I am now 2 quests down and fed up!! Can you advise on how to get these quests to wrk again?

The Quest charges on about 5 volts you have to plug the cigarette adapter into a 12 volt souce, the adapter then converts it to 5 volts. If you splice 12 volts directly into the mount the quest will not work because you burn up the circuits or the battery.

Garmin quest batteries

I have seen replacement batteries for the Quest GPS units on Ebay. Search for "Quest Battery" or "Quest GPS Battery". You may need to narrow your search but that will point you in the right direction. Another source is I have bought several batteries from them and have found their service outstanding.

Garmin Quest antenna broke of while quading need new antenna where to?

The best thing I can recommend is shop around on Ebay and hopefully find a basketcase Quest or Quest 2 with the antenna intact. Swapping the antennas is fairly easy. Lay the GPS display side down and remove the two endcap screws on the right side. Pull the old antenna out and to the right and replace it with the replacement antenna. Another option you may try is purchasing an external patch type antenna that can mount remotely and plugs into the back of your Quest GPS. Garmin WILL NOT sell you a replacement antenna. They want you to send it to them for repair and will charge you $100+.

"Detail maps Don't Support Routing" in Garmin Quest

I too have a Garmin Quest and yesterday felt like throwing it against the wall because of the above problem. I found the solution eventually. When you download the maps from the Garmin Maps page, where you select the maps download, make sure that the checkbox to "Include route calculation data" is ticked before downloading your maps. Also make sure that the total memory required for the number of maps selected does not exceed the available memory on your Quest. If you try to fit more information into your Quest than it can receive then you are bound to have some problems. The Quests seems to have different memory specifications. According to the USA spec the memory is only 128mb, the Garmin site says 115mb and the box that my Quest came in says that it has 243mb.

Any idea of a way i can use an ear piece with a Garmin Quest

Hi all,

the way i over came this problem was to use the unit in the same as a car, simply fix and wire up a female cigarette socket, plug the unit in,in the same way on your dash / fixing point ,then part the speaker and solder a female plug for your ear plugs, you can get all of these parts,@ any good electronic store, and a soldering iron from B&Q,dont forget to fix your unit in some way ,so it doesn't jump out of it's holder, Good luck

Garmin Quest 1 won't start up

My Quest had the same problem, I took it apart to see what I could see, 6 black screws on the back. What i found is that if I unplugged the battery and plugged it back in it would power on one time but not again. So I just left my battery unplugged and it works great from the car cradle all of the time. The clock resets but when it links to the satellites it gets the correct time again. Hope this helps you.

The antenna is on a spring loaded hinge and over time can get dirty where it connects to the gps. I have seen instances where cleaning the contacts helped the performance. Just be careful when removing the plastic endcap on the back of the GPS. There is a small spring that can fly out of there and is lost easily.
