Move your cartridges to the left removal position by pushing the orange button (890/1280) or hold the paper feed button in (older printers). When the cartridges arrive at the removal position, PULL THE POWER PLUG FOR THE PRINTER OUT OF THE WALL AND DISCONNECT THE INTERFACE CABLE (USB OR PARALLEL).
Remove the cartridges and then continue with step 2.
The power must be disconnected so that any corrupt data stored in the printer does not get written to the new chips causing them to fail prematurely.
To get chip off. Use a single sided razor blade and remove excess plastic from the top post holding the chip in place. Don't touch the bottom post. (On a new virgin empty cartridge that has never had a chip on it, this step is not necessary.) Use a knife blade or thin screw driver blade to pry chip off of cartridge. instal cartridges/new set-up epson S20 - topmenu8.jpg

hi sir here is the solution : 1.   Move your cartridges to the left removal position by pushing the orange button (890/1280) or hold the paper feed button in (older printers). When the cartridges arrive at the removal position,PULL THE POWER PLUG FOR THE PRINTER OUT OF THE WALL AND DISCONNECT THE INTERFACE CABLE (USB OR PARALLEL).
Remove the cartridges and then continue with step 2.
The power must be disconnected so that any corrupt data stored in the printer does not get written to the new chips causing them to fail prematurely.
  2.   To get chip off. Use a single sided razor blade and remove excess plastic from the top post holding the chip in place. Don't touch the bottom post. (On a new virgin empty cartridge that has never had a chip on it, this step is not necessary.)   3.   Use a knife blade or thin screw driver blade to pry chip off of cartridge.   4.   Slide new chip on to lower post. Don't try to force it over the excess plastic on the lower post. Take advantage of the U channel in the chip. When it is captured, then press the chip onto the top post.   5.   If the chip is loose, remove it and then use a SMALL amount of super glue or equivalent on the back side of the chip to keep it in place. CAUTION... do not get any glue on the gold pads. If the chip snapped in place you will not need any glue.   6.   Re-install the cartridges in the printer. Slide the cartridges back to the far right by hand. ThenTURN ON THE PRINTER POWER and reconnect the interface cable.   WARNING:    DO NOT PUT A CARTRIDGE WITHOUT A CHIP ON IT INTO THE PRINTER - IT WILL CAUSE FATAL DAMAGE TO PRINTER !!!If you insert a cartridge that does not have a chip on it down into the cartridge holder, the small metal fingers that normally make contact with the chip will get caught inside the cavity for the chip. Then when you pull the cartridge out, these fingers will get bent and the printer will be ruined.DON'T DO THIS !! The symptoms of this being done, is a constant red light on the printer regardless of the chip condition. The contact fingers never touch the chip again.

Lost software disk

No worries, you can always download the software for free from Epson. According to your problem you have the S20 model printer (if this is not correct please respond to my answer here and let me know your model and I will find the correct software for you). But based on your question, the S20.. I have the software link for you at the bottom of this answer. Just click that, open it up and go through the install by clicking SETUP when you open it, this installs the software for the printer.

Please make sure you rate my answer 4 thumbs up, it is extremely important to me. I would be forever grateful if you could do so. If you need more help on this question please just respond to my answer here and I will get right back to you.

Download the software for the printer here:

If you need additional software for it, like the "creative suite" that came on the cd originally you can get it for free from here:

If you are having issues printing, this could be caused from your printhead needing to be replaced.

Epson S20

The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Click on link below.:

I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues.

If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Epson stylus s20 problem. Printer will not print if just one of the four colour cartridge is empty. Can the printer be programed to print with what cartridges are avalible? The printer message does not say...

Unfortunately, all cartridges must be used in unison. In order to print one color you can usually go into your settings and set it to black and white only, but some models will not even do this. To be frank, these Epson models have a horrific reputation on the Internet for not recognizing cartridges, only printing 10's of pages before the ink runs out, and just general overall problems. I am sorry, but I would professionally suggest buying the cheapest Kodak/HP/Brother at Wal-Mart over even trying to troubleshoot this model at all.

Epson s20 printer ink not recognised

All printers are being manufactured using chip recognition software. They make lots of money selling you ink. Here's the solution: Get a CISS for your printer. It will save you TONS of MONEY, never change a cartridge again and it will pay for itself in a month.

Epson S20 does not recognise cartridges

It should be returned to the seller for exchange under warranty.

I presume you have removed the tags on the cartridge and ensured they have chips on the cartridge case? If all that has been done then i would be making a warranty claim

I think the problem is in your windows, try to reinstall your windows. I suggest, don't reset the original chip, cause it's damage the chip.
